Lui Liu (Chinese, b. 1957), Tic Tac Tattoo I, Tic Tac Tattoo II (two works), 2003. Oil on panel, 64 x 48 inches (162.6 x 121.9 cm) (each).

DALLAS, TX.- Two paintings by Chinese artist Lui Liu sold for more than $311,000 in Heritage Auctions' $1.9+ million Fine & Decorative Arts Including Estates Signature Auction in Dallas. Multiple bidders competed June 21-22 to own Tic Tac Tattoo I, Tic Tac Tattoo II (two works), 2003, which sold for $221,000, and In the Forest (four works), which ended at $90,625.

"As expected, the strong selection of European and Modern and Contemporary art was in high demand," said Brian Roughton, Managing Director of Fine Art. "The stellar results show bidders in the market for classic European works found what they wanted at Heritage."

The auction's selection of European art was predominately led by works from French artists. Perroquet, 1958, by Bernard Buffet, ended at $43,750 and a stunning painting by Guillaume Seignac titled Cupid's Secret sold for $37,500. Louis Icart's Au Pesage, circa 1930, sold for $32,500 against an $8,000 estimate while Mary Magdalene in the Cave, 1868, by Hugues Merle, more than doubled its estimate to finish at $27,500. Swiss artist Edmond Jean De Pury's At the Well, circa 1880, hammered for $32,500.

Three paintings of French street scenes by Edouard-Léon Cortès were popular as Boulevard et Porte Saint-Martin and The Pantheon, sold for $27,500 each, and Rue de la Paix, Place Vendôme, Paris ended at $26,250. The Contract, an oil on canvas by Spanish/Italian artist Juan Pablo Salinas Y Teruel sold for $27,500, and Le Pont Nuit (La Place Dauphin), circa 1890-95, by Victor Gabriel Gilbert, sold for $25,000.

The extensive selection of decorative arts saw prices surpass expectations as a Three-Piece Sèvres-Style Cobalt Blue Porcelain and Gilt Bronze Table Garniture, circa 1900, sold for $21,250 against a $5,000 estimate. A sensational pair of French Art Deco Frosted Glass, Silvered and Gilt Bronze Wall Sconces, circa 1925, sold for $8,766, against a $5,000 estimate, and a pair of Monumental Cobalt Blue Porcelain and Gilt Bronze Mounted Covered Urns, circa 1900, brought $7,500 against a $6,000 estimate.

Additional highlights include, but are not limited to:

• A Pair of Chinese Rose Medallion Porcelain Floor Vases, 19th century: Realized $11,250.

• An Austrian Orientalist Cold Painted Bronze Figural Lamp, circa 1900: Realized $10,000.
