What dio we know of Post War American Painting besides Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art? The exhibition 'American Dream' at the Drents Museum offers a surprising viewpoint... The American Dream - American Realism 1945 - 2017: one exhibition, two venues! From 19 November 2017 to 27 May 2018, the Drents Museum (Assen, Netherlands) and the Kunsthalle Emden (Emden, Germany) are presenting a spectacular overview of American Realism. The exhibition takes you on a journey to post-war American culture and at a fascinating view on the American way of life. Alongside international acclaimed painters, Edward Hopper, Andrew Wyeth and Alice Neel, some less known but interesting painters have been selected for this unique exhibition.

I found your article re Ascher scarfs. I have an original scarf from the famous artists collection. The Artist is Jean Cocteau - the drawing is a drawing of a dragon in a shield. It is signed To Zika Ascher - Jean Cocteau 1947. I found it in a house clearance of a dear old friend some 30 years ago - I knew it was unusual. I have tried to find Sam Ascher online but failed. I would love to find the value and possibly sell. Thank you Eileen

I receive and read your publication daily, yet every day when I first click on an item to read the full article a pop up box appears asking me to sign up to receive Art Daily. There is no "X" to click on to close this box, which blocks the article making it impossible to read. Normally I have to close the email to get rid of it, and then start again to be able to read the articles. Today, despite performing this annoying ritual procedure, the "sign up" box keeps reappearing. It did have an X in the upper left when I clicked on the contact tab to write you this email. I hope you will remedy this problem, I can't read any articles.

The interactive Tape Des Moines by artist collective Numan / For Use is the first of its kind in the U.S. The artists have installed in Paris, Tokyo, London, Sydney, etc. but the Des Moines Art Center presents the first installation in the U.S. Who should I talk to about covering this exhibition? Hello, I hope this message finds you well- I represent Ransom Ashley, a photographer and actor based between Louisiana and NYC that uses his photography as a means to explore identity and his tumultuous upbringing in the American South. Teen Vogue recently ran an interview on him and featured some of his work - I imagined the readership at ArtDaily would enjoy an interview or artist spotlight on the young artist regarding his photography (and possibly acting) work. Ransom has amassed quite the following on social media and has been generating a lot of press with the recent debut of his solo retrospective "Unrest". You can view some of his work (and CV) at www.ransomashley.com - I have attached a brief biography and links to his official pages below. If that isn't fitting, you can view something more expansive here. Thanks so much for your time. I hope to hear from you soon! Best, Dave Hester SBC Management

It is about 14 inches by 71/2 inches,it is framed behind glass with 3 oval shaped pictures very old arb men that appear to tell a story. it has very tiny writing on it,,,, the artist name is Badrosama... It has a hand written note that says "valuable" dated 1977 signed to Kay on the back..If you can give me any info on these type of paintings I would appreciate it. It is a very unique painting from Iran. Thank you in advance for your insight.

Hi, I'm an Italian artist living in Italy. I wanted to know if your site also offers paid advertising newsletter services. In the case of an affirmative answer I would like to know if it is necessary to subscribe to your site to use the service and if the registration is free. I would also like to know if the message is sent to a specific number of people or send it to all your contacts. And if you send it to a specific number of people, is it possible to decide who to send it to? In the sense there are distinctions by geographical origin (regions, provinces, country) or by type of users (simple art lovers, collectors, artists, operators of the sector)? Because, if the contacts are many and can be divided, once a month I could send a message to new contacts to increase my crowdfunding page I'm creating these days. For example, every month I could use part of the proceeds in the advertising that you offer .. Otherwise I could use it only once. Good day. Franco Pero

PRESS RELEASE IMAGES AVAILABLE Lost works by Non Combatant Corp Artist 11 18 November 2017 Darnley Fine Art is presenting a selling exhibition of 1930-40s artwork by the artist Gordon Scott 1914- 2006. The collection contains over sixty original artworks and brings together new information on the artists life. Found in a trunk that he had been thrown on the dump, this is the first time such an exhibition has been put together on this scale of Gordon Scotts work. During WWII he was a conscientious objector,as a member of the Non Combatant Corps NCC. He produced a number of sketches and paintings of fellow conscientious objectors who passed through the camp. As far as we can find, there are no other such portraits of NCC members known to be in existence. In 1946 he joined the staff of Camberwell School of Art.

The painting of the lady with the Rider Hat does not appear to be Berthe Morisot in the link below but Cora Pearl http://artdaily.com/index.asp?int_sec=2&int_new=51799#.WfgFyWeouUm A very famous Courtesan - who was a very good equestrian rider and was nicknamed 'The Amazon" as to how she handled her horses vs her men. see link and reference and look at her dress on the horse. She had many acquaintances including Prince and Dukes. She knew Manet very well as she circled many of the Cafes the artist visited like Tortoni and Café English. https://m.thevintagenews.com/2017/02/28/cora-pearl-the-decadent-19th-century-french-courtesan-once-had-waiters-carry-her-naked-on-a-silver-plate/ I have a downloadable book in PDF from 1890 stating that Cora was called the Amazon due to her riding ability. Look up Cora Pearl in the French national online library www.gallica.bnf Let me know your thoughts.. Rafael

Rarely displayed commercial posters from the 1890s through the turn of the 21st century will adorn the Delaware College of Art and Design gallery as the final exhibition of 2017. The large-scale pieces making up The Big Picture: Illustration Art in the Printed Poster encompass a range of subjects, artists, printing methods and styles. Curated by David Pollack of David Pollack Vintage Posters, the show includes work by some poster illustration masters, including Frank Brangwyn, Ben Shahn and Roy Besser. Often crossing the border between fine and commercial art, this work sold a product while standing as visually powerful imagery worthy of preserving and displaying as its own art form. A reception for The Big Picture will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 3 in conjunction with Art Loop Wilmington. Also opening that night will be the student-created, student-curated show Interact, which will feature three-dimensional work and include two-dimensional pieces. Admission to both is free.

I have a fantastic and colorful idea for a story. Pop artist Peter Max turns 80 on Oct 19. As you probably know, Peter was hugely influential in the 60's with the evolution of color, graphic design, spiritual and contemporary art. He has been on the covers of Life, Playboy, last month's AARP magazine and so many more. AWESOME Pinterest page of his work. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/493425702900875406/?lp=true He is still involved and painting. He recently did the artwork for the 2017 US Open Tennis Tournament and was featured in the NY Times sports section. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/08/sports/tennis/peter-maxs-us-open-image-variation-on-a-classic-theme.html?_r=0 http://www.usopen.org/en_US/news/articles/2017-06-14/renowned_artist_revisits_iconic_us_open_theme_art_20_years_later.html?chip=1 His Wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Max All the best, Daryl Wise

I would like to add an event to artdaily.org and cannot work out how I do this. The Northern Antiques Fair provides an exciting opportunity to peep at personal items and private memorabilia from the Vivien Leigh Collection. Haynes Fine Art London & Cotswolds has furnished a room set, within The Northern Antiques Fair, with pieces from the homes the British actress shared with her husband Sir Laurence Olivier. It is now 50 years since the death of the celebrated double Oscar and Tony Award winner, who shot to fame in her role as Scarlett O Hara in the 1939 American epic Gone With The Wind, playing opposite Clark Gable, Rhett Butler. The decorative room setting provides an insight into the actress personal life showing her passion for interior design and modern British paintings. The Northern Antiques Fair opens in Hall M, Harrogate Convention Centre, Harrogate HG1 2SY, 19 to 22 October 2017. www.northernfair.com

Dear Sirs, We have a pair of oil paintings by the foremost Californian impressionist painter E. CHARLTON FORTUNE 1885 to 1969, which will feature in the upcoming Art & Antiques sale with Shapes Auctioneers in Edinburgh www.shapesedinburgh.co.uk , one of Scotland's leading independent auction houses. The sale will take place on November 4th 2017. The paintings meausre 7 x 9 inches and depict views of Monterey Wharf. The first painting is signed and dated 1934. The second is titled and dated 1934. They were discovered in another auction house who had not realised who the artist was and were therefore picked up greatly undervalue. They have since been authenticated and now go up for auction on 4th November. Please let me know if you would like any images or further information.

A plain, construction-shielding wall in the M&T Bank Wilmington Trust Building lobby has spent the last few months as a gallery for artists affiliated with the Delaware College of Art and Design, thanks to a collaboration between the two institutions. M&Ts desire to dress up the 35-foot-by-16-foot wall during renovations coincided with DCADs 20th anniversary. While art was being curated for the DCAD@20 auction and exhibition, the idea emerged to hang select pieces at M&T, which is the presenting sponsor of the DCAD anniversary activities, until DCAD@20 opened in September. That display of works by DCAD alumni, faculty, staff and friends was hung at M&T from July 5 to Sept. 1. After that, the items were returned to DCAD in time for the September Wilmington Art Loop. Officials decided to continue the collaboration, and DCAD faculty members and academic administrators submitted pieces for a new display. These were hung at M&T on Sept. 18 and will remain there until later this mon

The Delaware College of Art and Design was founded in 1997 through a partnership between Pratt Institute and the Corcoran College of Art and Design. A highlight of its 20th anniversary has been the DCAD@20 exhibition and auction, which continues through Oct. 15 in the Toni & Stuart B. Young Gallery. A free reception will be held as part of Wilmington Art Loop from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 6. DCAD alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends contributed art to the exhibition. Half of the sales proceeds will go to fund student scholarships while the other half will go to the artist. Also for sale are a number of works owned by DCAD, the full purchase price of which will go to the scholarship fund. To bid, visit dcad.schoolauction.net/dcad20. Opening with a free reception of its own on Oct. 6 will be an exhibition of works created and curated by current students. It will be shown on the first floor of the Saville Residence Hall. Many of these pieces also will be available for purchase.

Are you aware that you are sending pop up invitations to join the Art Daily mailing list to people who, like myself. are already on the list?I have been on it for years. These pop ups interrupt one's reading and are difficult if not impossible to get rid of, at least with my browser. Could you not spare those who are already registered? I have now registered again, in the hope of getting rid of the popups. Having said this I love Art Daily, and read it daily, and am very grateful that it is a free resource. Should I criticise such a generous gift? Well I make you a generous gift in return, that of my time and full attention. And I regularly recommend Art Daily to others.
