I am seeking a little guidance. I was directed to your website because I am trying to find information about a painting I purchased at a thrift store 11 years ago. I have always been drawn to this painting I purchased, but also wanted to know more about it. The painting is signed by "Gander", and I was about to end my fascination with the painting and re-donating it, but decided to lift the back to see if it was actually a print, or a painting. when I lifted the backing, I found reference to Brienz Switzerland and the date of purchase of July 17, 1945. There is also writing that says this is by a Brienz artist. I was wandering if there is any information available. The painting is of a stone bridge, and some buildings. Thank you

Hi there, I am the fundraiser for African childrens charity Lively Minds. We are participating in the annual Small Charity Week eBay auction from June 16th-26th to help raise vital funds for our early childhood education projects in Ghana and Uganda. As part of the eBay auction, we will be auctioning off an exclusive and unique private exhibition tour for up to four adults at Sothebys auction house, followed by afternoon tea. The tour will be personally led by one of Sothebys art experts, and although conditions apply, will be tailored to the winners area of interest where possible. All funds raised from the auction will go directly towards our early childhood education and female empowerment projects supporting rural communities in Ghana and Uganda. We hope that this item will really appeal to art collectors and fans, and were wondering whether you would consider promoting it in your website/social media? Kind regards, Laura

Not sure if this is the right place to raise attention on this matter, but a news on TV today mentioned a historical printing shop is closing in Tainan, Taiwan (I'm currently in Taiwan) and that the owner was trying to get rid of everything (including 80000 traditional Chinese character blocks, circular press, block making tools, gold foil press, among others you rarely see anymore, let alone find them in fully working condition dating back to early 1900s. I don't have any connections to this ancient print shop in Tainan, but if you can possibly spread the word to those who can possibly preserve such rare collection in a full, functioning condition, it would really make my day and save such a rare pieces of artifacts. Here's a Youtube clip of the news piece -- they apparently only showed a few items, while he has a lot more in the print shop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAJ-FiJJZoY

Hello to everyone who loves public art and sculpture in particular. The City of Westminster, London, is full of works by the most renowned sculptors, both nationally and internationally. I want to tell you about a fantastic new app called StatueFindr. It has 350+ sculptures by 200+ sculptors from 24 countries and 1,200+ photographs of the highest quality. There's biographies for those people being commemorated as well as for every sculptor. It's a sculpture exhibition in your hands, but so much more. You can find out about people who've been leaders in Science, Politics, Literature and the Arts. It has foreign leaders, individuals who have contributed to the world we live in as well as to Great Britain's rich historical past, royalty, war memorials and modern/contemporary art are all in the app. It's in French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian and Mandarin. It a new way of seeing sculpture and I would really recommend you try it!

I think your readers will be interested in my art project which matches actors and artists in a dream casting for biopics. The project started by accident when I noticed Amanda Peet's resemblance to Tracey Emin - it's uncanny. I got hooked matching the artist with the actor and each dream casting threw me down the rabbit hole of each person's oeuvre. I think it's a new way to link pop culture to a realm that many folk are intimidated by or just not privy to. And I've learned a lot. Hopefully you will find it entertaining too. I'm almost halfway through the male artists' month of May and post daily. I plan to continue as long as I can find connections and open it up to writers and musicians soon. www.bitterlivingthroughchemistry.com www.facebook.com/bitterlivingthroughchemistry thank you for your time, Monika Bullette www.bullette.net

The Florida Holocaust Museum is excited to announce that it will open an exhibition this fall entitled Matzevot for Everyday Use. This exhibition will feature photographs taken all over Eastern Europe by Polish photographer Lukasz Baksik to document the ways in which Jewish gravestones have been stolen and re-appropriated. The matzevot are now parts of fences, pavements, and even grindstones. Even today, the matzevot continue to be used in cases where ordinary stone, of which there is no shortage, could be used. The exhibition premiers at The Florida Holocaust Museum on October 15, 2016, followed by a tour as a traveling exhibition beginning in March 2017, exclusively from The Florida Holocaust Museum. Thank you for considering this exhibition for publication. If you have any questions or would like additional information on this exhibition, please contact me directly at 727-820-0100 x242 or kwright@thefhm.org.

Hi, From May 10th through June 18th, Magda Danysz is pleased to present "Knock on wood". As a material and also as a source of inspiration, wood can lead to a wide range of creations. This is exactly what Magda Danysz Gallery invites us to discover from the 10th of May with the group show "Knock on Wood". Bringing together artists from Canada, Japan, Switzerland, China and France, both famous and emerging, the show is a mix of creations (sculptures, installations, two dimensional works, etc.) where wood is the essence. Feel free to contact me for more info and the press release. Best regards,

Los Angeles fine art photographer Tami Bahat will be showcasing new pieces of her Dramatis Personae series at the Photo Independent international art fair this weekend, April 29-May 1 at Raleigh Studios. Dramatic portraiture that finds its biggest inspiration in classic painting, the series made its debut last fall in Paris at Fotofever, despite the disruption of the terrorist attacks. Paired with vintage frames culled from every corner of Southern California and beyond, the portraits introduce you to an eccentric array of people you may have overlooked over the last few centuries... Bahat has teamed up with Fabrik Projects, whose booth will feature several new pieces of the series as well as the work of six other exceptional photographers: Sarah Hadley, Susan Swihart, Marian Crostic, Lisa McCord, J.K. Lavin and Paula Riff http://www.tamibahatphotography.com/dramatis-personae.html http://photoindependent.com/

ROYAL PHOTOS BY VINCENT MENTZEL - to 21 August 2016 Paleis Het Loo in Apeldoorn (The Netherlands) is showing an exhibition entitled Royal Photos by Vincent Mentzel, featuring some of the finest pictures of the Dutch Royal Family made by photographer Vincent Mentzel. Mentzel was allowed to work in close proximity to the family and the result is often very unique. His work gives a striking time-line of the Netherlands and the life of the House of Orange under Queen Beatrix. Throughout his 40-year journalistic career, Vincent Mentzel produced photographs that gave a face to NRC Handelsblad. With his journalistic eye and background, Mentzel never hesitated to capture the more informal moments during his contacts with the Royal Family. This, together with his original photographic view, resulted in a special series of images, characterised by an informal, sometimes even frivolous, yet always respectful approach. This will be my debut solo exhibition with the gallery and on the West coast. The exhibition titled, Everything Is Hilarious And Nothing Is Real, will feature brand new paintings within my on-going series of meticulously replicating 19th-century American paintings and photographs and combining them with the casual grammatical uncouthness of social media. My work is not digitally generated nor are they Photoshopped. Each piece is painted by hand, including the lettering. Upon request, I'd be happy to supply images for all work, as well as bio and an artist statement. Thank you for your consideration! Looking Forward, Shawn Huckins www.shawnhuckins.com

Hello, I would like to submit an idea for you to write article about. It is about Google's recent academic work which combines art with computer science (A Neural Algorithm of Artistic Style). Basically it allows us to take artistic style of one image and combine it with a content from another image. There are bunch of articles online about how it works from technical standpoint, but what I am interested in is your input in terms of how it will affect artists and art as a whole. I write to you about this mainly because I am huge proponent of this method and I publish some of my results online over at animatronio.com. If you are interested, contact me back and we could discuss this in more depth. Regards, Dionyz Lazar

Friedel Dzubas: "Mural Paintings" features among the largest single-weave canvas created by a mid-century American painter. Born in Berlin in 1939, he emigrated to the US in 1939. Sharing a studio with Helen Frankenthaler, he enjoyed a life-long friendship with Clement Greenberg. I would like to send you a film of the installation of Dzubas's magnificent canvas, Apocalypsis cum Figuras - this was a thirteen-hour undertaking. It can be viewed on www.friedeldzubas.org. Might someone from your publication be interested to view this show? It has just been extended for one more year, closing now in April 2017. Dzubas's importance to the development of painting in American cannot be overestimated. His contribution has been under appreciated. Perhaps someone at Art Daily might agree. I am trying to find your issue from March 16 through March 20 which featured a neon piece from I believe Art Dubai. The image was OUCH, and the title was a variation on "words cannot express my pain." I would like to show the image as part of a class I'm teaching on the usage of text in art. Thank you for your attention. Sincerely, Joanne Kaufman

I'd love to have a copy (jpeg?) of it after you restore it if possible. Thank you, Bob. FYI Gilbert is also a veteran of the American Revolution.

I have two old English paintings...one by George Lambert..1760's and the other a monumental larger than life portrait of Lord Halifax...Looks to be 1700's in dress and attire...I am seeking somebody to help me to both value and sell these paintings in Britain as I believe their historical value is more relevant in England..Can you steer me in the right direction?
