I have a painting with a signature J Sargent in the left hand corner. It is an oil painting of a landscape that was given to my father in the 1940's in lieu of payment for a job he did for someone . I am curious to see what John Singer Sargent's signature looked like to know whether my painting is worth anything.

Dear Art Daily I am an artist living and working in the UK, having spent many years in the USA being mentored by a Native American Indian, becoming immersed in the Indian culture and ancient rock art symbolism. These symbols resonate with many of the global environmental and personal challenges we face in todays world and they are a central component to my art in the Soul Shaker series - you can view the work here: http://gordonellisbrown.com/soul-shaker.html I have had several pieces accepted and hung in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London. I am now looking to further promote my work in the UK and internationally and am reaching out to organisations and individuals who may have a specific interest. I would appreciate and welcome any advice, thoughts and feedback on where I can gain representation for my work and whether Art Daily could support in any capacity. Best regards Gordon Gordon Ellis-Brown +44 (0)7748 631777 www.gordonellisbrown.com

The more important exhibition at the World Chess Hall of Fame is "Animal Vegetable Mineral" -- in which the Dean collection of Chess Sets serves as the foundation for a history of chess playing, as seen through the materials from which chess sets are made. And aside from the examples in Marble, Amber, Wood, Metal, Glass and more, we see how the materials get turned into pieces -- the tools and methods, along with videos of the artisans at work. It turns out to be a history and a celebration of hand craft and art. and like chess itself, becomes an allegory for art and life, for power and creativity, for strategy and forthrightness, for life. Suggest you guys look again. The Curator, Larry List is an international expert on Chess and Surrealism. His original "Imagery of Chess" exhibition for the Noguchi Museum is the foundation for the "Imagery of Chess" show now at the World Chess Hall of Fame. CHECK IT OUT

Hello -- I daily read your publication and wonder, if I missed any article on the recent death of Edgar Munhall? Mr. Munhall was the first curator of The Frick Collection from 1965-2000; then as curator emeritus. He was internationally known as an expert on the 18th-Century French painter Jean-Baptiste Greuze; curated several exhibitions of the artist's works. He was recognized by the French government for his work in promoting French culture. Edgar Munhall, born March 14, 1933, died in Manhattan from pancreatic and lung cancer on Monday October 17, 2016. I hoped artdaily.org would recognized Edgar Munhall's passing due to his role in growing The Frick Collection, considered by many to be one of the top ten world museums, and his intense dedication to art research and history. If I missed one, please send me a copy. For ten years I was Edgar's assistant and first registrar of TFC, so I worked directly with him and saw his expertise.

The assumption that Greek artists played any role in teaching style to Chinese sculptors in the days of the creation of the terra-cotta army, is ill founded, I believe. True, Egyptian sculptural style had a definite role and influence in the Greek development of a realistic artistic style, but the Greeks contented themselves with the production of their religious and cultural history without any idea of artistic proselytizing elsewhere, especially in a culture older than their own. looking at the two depictions of three dimensional art, I see absolutely no commonality. China can be proud of it's artistic achievement with the terra-cotta warriors

J.H.Pierneef work Waterberg 1920 sale Dear Sir, Madam, With this e-mail I would like to draw your attention to the upcoming sale of a work of J.H. Pierneef. Auction house De Zwaan in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, will offer an aquarel of J.H. Pierneef for sale at the auction of Thursday 3rd of November. The work is a relatively unknown signed watercolor from 1920, depicting the Waterberg, 36 x 54 cm. The work is in its original frame. The catalogue is online at www.zwaan.nl It has been on our attic for decades, forgotten what the background of the artist was. Good afternoon, Thank you for taking the time to read my email. I am an artist who has just finished my latest project, #100Numbers. I have a love for minimalist and contemporary art. My project involves 100 pieces, each a number between 1 and 100. Each will be sold on the 11/11/16 for a minimum of 16.6 million. I have had an interest in 12 pieces so far. They are only willing to buy if I can find buyers for the full collection. This is an ambitious idea dealing with a massive amount of money. 1.66 billion to be precise. Bellow is a link for my trial website. The launch date will be on the 11/11/16. onehundrednumbers.squarespace.com If possible, I would greatly appreciate some exposure. If I accomplish what I'm trying to achieve, I aim to give the majority away. Thank you for your time. I hope you wish to discuss this further. Kind regards, S.M.W

Greetings, I'm a producer with Reuters TV here in NYC, where i help produce programming for our international clients. I'm looking to interview someone who can comment on the fall jewelry auctions here in the city: i.e. the outlook compared to year's past, the health of the market, jewelry as an investment. We are hoping to conduct an on-camera interview here at our Times Square studio sometime later this week. The interview would be taped, not live, and shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. I'd be happy to discuss in great detail. You can reach me via email or cell: 646-462-6134. Thanks, Christine

Re: "Art in a time of Chaos," you wrote: "Most of the artworks are on public view for the first time in the U.S." While Hawaii has only been a state for little more than half a century, and was a US territory for half a century before that, it is part of the US, and this exhibition was at the Honolulu Museum of Art for several months before moving to the China Institute in New York. Perhaps a little history or geography lesson would be appropriate for your reviewer (and editor).

The first ever biography of Patrick Nagel, is complete. Being he was so successful in 1980s, the boomers in your audience either owned, or still own his art, especially if they were fans of Playboy magazine. They know his art; they just don't know his name. The book is titled The Artist Who Loved Women: The Incredible Life & Work of Patrick Nagel, the Most Successful & Anonymous Artist of the 1980s , (ISBN 9786926859281) and is the only biography of Nagel's personal, professional and artistic evolution.
