LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.- Two murals by Maxfield Parrish were stolen from the Edenhurst Fine Art Gallery. theworks are valued at around $5 million. The works measure 5 feet high by 6 feet wide. The works were commissioned in 1914. They were stolen during the weekend. The alarm had been disabled. The theives came into the gallery through the roof. The works are panels 3A and 3B of a set of six known as the Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney murals. The gallery had put them on sale. Alma Gilbert, author of 13 books on Maxfield Parrish, stated, "There is a passion for Parrish. It sounds melodramatic but it’s true. It has the makings of a contract [theft] like The Thomas Crown Affair and - guess what - it was shown on television on the three days before they were stolen."
