MADRID, SPAIN.- Beginning Tuesday, January 4th, 005, the Museo del Prado will start charging 6 euros as admission to the museum. This will be compensated by extending free admission to students, active professors, retired people and senior citizens, as well as the unemployed. The new admission charge was approved in November by the museums board. Miguel Zugaza explained that expect to get 6 million euros for admission charges more than the previous year and use the money for new projects. Zugaza commented that the Prado will still be less expensive than other European museums, such as the Louvre, that charges 8.5 euros. The museum will have free admission on Sundays, on December 6, October 12, May 2 and May 18. People younger than 18 years, people older than 65 from the European Community countries, unemployed and students from the European Union younger than 25 will also have free admission. Members of large families from the EU, students younger than 25 from non-EU countries and holders of the youth identification will pay half the admission fee.
