YORK, PA.- If ever there were a doubt as to the identity of the most popular character in the Star Wars universe, Hakes October 16 auction ended the debate once and for all. With strong competition from both the marquee names and more-obscure personalities inhabiting George Lucas immortal franchise, one larger-than-life figure stepped forward to claim three of the top 10 positions at the $900,000 auction: Boba Fett. Action figures depicting the formidable, eerily untalkative bounty hunter attracted heated competition in the high-profile sale, which exclusively featured Part III of the mind-boggling Jeff Jacob Collection. Corita Kent, Irregularity: Corita and Immaculate Heart College's Rule Breaking Designs, 2025 installation view Marciano Art Foundation Library, Los Angeles.
LOS ANGELES, CA.- Andrew Kreps Gallery and kaufmann repetto shared that work of Corita Kent is currently the subject of the exhibition Corita Kent: The Sorcery of Images, at Marciano Art Foundation. In a sense, the whole world around the artist is his source, his sorting and relating powers are his sorcery, and the one isnt much good without the other. Anything can be a source, even a mistake. The sorcery or the thievery is the art of relating sources into a new solution. These were the insights of Corita Kent (19181986), artist, teacher and activist who uniquely combined her passions for faith and politics in an exuberant and joyfully creative practice. As a Catholic nun in Los Angeless Immaculate Heart of Mary order and an influential art teacher at Immaculate Heart College from 1947 to 1968, Corita (as she was known) gained international recognition for her signature ... GENEVA.- Pleasing the Spirits takes the visitor on a journey through the Barbier-Mueller Collection, an extraordinary set of artefacts from across the world. This project is devised in close dialogue with artist Paul Maheke, whose work, centred on dance and performance, explores the potential of the body as a vector for memory and history. Pleasing the Spirits offers a pathway alongside these objects. Seats embrace us, masks scrutinise us, a dense forest of spears and shields rises before us, while the ceremonial objects embody joy and exaltation. Ringholt has used frottage to create impressions of a previous body of his work, first exhibited at Propane gallery in Melbourne in early 2025. This initial series utilized a poster design the artist first created in 2014 which made associations between the British Royal Family and advertising of guns. The various graphics of the poster such as text, photographs, flag design and gun logos, were repeatedly altered and re-mixed in an abstract fashion, ... More

On a day like today, Irish-born British figurative painter Francis Bacon was born
October 28, 1909. Francis Bacon (28 October 1909 - 28 April 1992) was an Irish-born British figurative painter known for his raw, unsettling imagery. Focusing on the human form, his subjects included crucifixions, portraits of popes, self-portraits, and portraits of close friends, with abstracted figures sometimes isolated in geometrical structures. He said that he saw images "in series", and his work, which numbers in the region of 590 extant paintings along with many others he destroyed, typically focused on a single subject for sustained periods, often in triptych or diptych formats. In this image: Francis Bacon (1909-1992). Studies from the Human Body (1975). oil on canvas; 200x150 cm. Private Collection.
