Bendor Grosvenor joins the Lyon & Turnbull board as a Non Executive Director
Dr. Grosvenor is best known for discovering important lost paintings by Old Master artists.

EDINBURGH.- The art historian and broadcaster Dr. Bendor Grosvenor is to join the Board of Edinburgh auctioneers Lyon & Turnbull as a Non-Executive Director.

Dr. Grosvenor is best known for discovering important lost paintings by Old Master artists such as Sir Peter Paul Rubens, Peter Brueghel the Younger, and Sir Anthony Van Dyck, on whom he is an acknowledged specialist. His most significant Scottish art discovery was finding a lost portrait of Bonnie Prince Charlie by Allan Ramsay, which was recently acquired by the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. He has presented many arts programmes for the BBC, including 'Britain's Lost Masterpieces’, 'Fake or Fortune?’, and The Culture Show. He lives in Edinburgh.

Gavin Strang, Managing Director of Lyon & Turnbull said: “We are delighted that Bendor is joining the Board of Lyon & Turnbull. He brings a vast number of skills to the board including his breadth and knowledge of Old Master Paintings and his expertise in the digital world. His appointment will allow us to expand the company’s reach both nationally and internationally.”

Dr Grosvenor’s primary passion of Old Master Paintings, reinforces Lyon & Turnbull as the pre-eminent saleroom outside London in Fine Art. He also has an online platform ‘Art History News’ and his lively Twitter feed has over 10,000 followers.

Ben Grosvenor said ‘I have spent most of my career being a dealer, but I have always secretly wanted to be an auctioneer. For many years I have loved visiting (and bidding in) Lyon & Turnbull’s beautiful auction rooms - and I am now so pleased to be joining the company’s board at this exciting time. The auction world has such potential to help bring the Old Masters, with their endlessly fascinating stories, to new audiences, something I am passionate about.’

His appointment strengthens the breadth and depth of the senior management team with Gavin Strang as Managing Director and Lee Young as International Director.
