NEW YORK, NY.- This September, ARTnews, the worlds longest running and most widely circulated art magazine, debuts a newly designed print magazine. The new visual identity features a contemporary logo, fresh typefaces and a sophisticated layout, all of which has been designed by ARTNEWS S.A.s (investor.artnews.com) in-house team. These new features are also reflected in the publications digital platform artnews.com, which officially relaunches today.
ARTnews is becoming a more international publicationand our new look and feel perfectly captures this diverse content. Designed and produced by our in-house team across both sides of the Atlantic, the new ARTnews is cool, elegant and a proven market leader in the world of print art magazines, a great homage to our 112 years of history, stated Izabela Depczyk, Publisher.
ARTnewss established heritage is reflected in the newly revamped logo, which was partly inspired by the magazines logo from 19411962. The result is contemporary and elegant, and complemented by the use of a combination of classic and modern typefaces within the editorial pages: Bauer Bodoni, Futura Light and Adobe Caslon.
ARTnewss interior layout is airier and more spacious, with text appearing in two symmetrical, justified columns to allow for a more visually cohesive backdrop for the reproduction of artworks and the enduringly high-quality content. Increased to nine inches horizontally, the magazines pages are printed with a matte finish, as is the cover, which additionally features a gloss varnish over the central image.
The September cover reflects the pared-down aesthetic, showcasing one work of art surrounded by a white border and limited cover lines. This months cover image is by Manhattan-based photographer, Arne Svenson, whose controversial series The Neighbors is the focus of a major feature story by Barbara Pollack entitled When Does Surveillance Art Cross the Line?. Additional editorial highlights include a revealing interview with Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation Director Richard Armstrong on the future of the Guggenheim Helsinki, and an in-depth look inside the exuberant and poetic landscapes of Yutaka Sone as told by Hilarie Sheets. The September issue also features newly appointed Editor-in-Chief Sarah Douglass first Editors Letter.
ARTnewss September issue hits newsstands two months after the announcement of Izabela Depczyk as Publisher and Sarah Douglas as Editor-in-Chief, and the merger of ARTnews LLC and Abbey House Group S.A to form ARTNEWS S.A., a publically-traded company on the Warsaw Stock Exchange with corporate offices in Warsaw and operational offices in New York City. ARTnews is currently relocating to a new home at 40 West 25th Street, 6th Floor, New York, NY 10010. A European edition of the magazine is set to launch in the second half of 2015.
