This important introductory survey to the work of former Borough Group painter, Miles Richmond includes nearly 50 oils, charcoals and watercolours none of which have been publicly exhibited illustrating a career that stretched from post-war London to Spain, Yorkshire and beyond.
Informed by the pioneering ethos of his former teacher and close friend David Bomberg, (1890-1957), Richmond based his entire career on a quest to paint landscape in terms of both its actualities and its innate energy and like Bomberg, he believed that drawing was a universal language that could potentially inform and transform society.
Key sections of this exhibit focus on Richmond's early studies of Ronda and southern Andalusia, his pivotal period in the early 1970s when he reinvented his work through Bauhaus colour theory, and the chromatic energy that marked his painting throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
Works are priced between £5,500 and £26,500. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully-illustrated catalogue with a semi-autobiographical discussion of the artist's life and work.
