Five galleries from Amsterdam and five galleries from Berlin announced for Gallery Weekend Berlin
The focus of this year’s exhibition will be on photography, but also sculpture, painting, drawing, video and installation will be featured.
BERLIN.- Amsterdam has a long tradition in being an inspiring place for artists. However, the city was not only the world-famous laboratory of the Old Masters, but is still a very important location for contemporary art. Also Berlin impresses with a young wild art scene, that has brought out some internationally highly regarded artists in the last decade. After the successful kick-off in 2013 with more than 2,000 visitors, galleries from Amsterdam and Berlin have decided to come together for the second time to realize a joint exhibition under the proven title “I AMsterdam YOU BErlin”, which will take place again during the Gallery Weekend.

This year’s motto will be the involvement and examination of the exhibition space, the Johannes Evangelist Church.

While the atmosphere in 2013 still had a quite sealed character, the new exhibition concept with wide-spread presentation walls will create the impression of a common overview-like show.

As a special finish, the artist duo GODsDOGs will show a walk-in installation in the choir of the church. The open spatial concept allows to experience the artworks interacting with the location. In this setting, emerging Dutch artists will face the vibrant art scenery of Berlin. In the frame of “I AMsterdam YOU BErlin”, some of them will get the opportunity to present their works in Berlin for the first time.

The focus of this year’s exhibition will be on photography, but also sculpture, painting, drawing, video and installation will be featured. Some of the artworks will be created especially for this show and location. Others are inspired by very exceptional places.

The visitor will get the chance to discover works by Jan Banning, Anna Borowy, Dario Puggioni, Erik Buijs, Sander Cedee, Marchand & Meffre, Paula Muhr, Luca Lanzi, Lotte van Lieshout, Carina Linge, Petra Lottje, Rijnder Kamerbeek, Annette Schröter, Carsten Weitzmann, Isabelle Wenzel and many others.

Participating galleries from Amsterdam: Galerie Bart, Galerie Fontana, Galerie AdK, Galerie Wit and Galerie Brandt

Participating galleries from Berlin: Jarmuschek + Partner, janinebeangallery, lorch+seidel contemporary, Petra Rietz Salon and Wichtendahl Galerie
