Shelburne Museum Presents Norman Rockwell: At Home in Vermont

Installation view of Norman Rockwell: At Home in Vermont.

SHELBURNE, VT.- Shelburne Museum is presenting Norman Rockwell: At Home in Vermont, on view June 20 through October 25, 2026. The exhibition examines how America’s beloved illustrator Norman Rockwell (1894–1978) shaped an enduring vision of Vermont—and, by extension, the nation, during his formative years living and working in Arlington, Vermont, from 1939 to 1953. “Rockwell’s Vermont was both a real place and a carefully constructed ideal,” said Carolyn Bauer, the Marna and Chuck Davis Curator of American Art at Shelburne Museum and curator of the exhibition. “By situating his work within the social, artistic, and literary context of Arlington, this exhibition reveals how Rockwell used place to articulate enduring American values, community, self-reliance, and moral conviction at a moment when the nation desperately needed reassurance.” Created ... Macao returns to Venice Biennale with Jacone's Polyphony   Architect I.M. Pei's archive to be transfered to MIT Museum in landmark acquisition   Morphy's June 10-11 Fine & Decorative Arts auction outperforms at more than $3.5 million

Sigh of Migration by Veronica Lei

VENICE.- The exhibition from Macau, China, at the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia opened on May 9th, marking the city's tenth participation as a collateral event in one of world's most prestigious art events, a presence it has held since 2007. Titled Jacone's Polyphony, the exhibition traces the life of Wu Li (known by his Portuguese name Jacone) and his cultural intersections with Macao. A Qing dynasty painter who stood at the crossroads of East and West, his reverberations now reach the shores of the Adriatic, forging an unexpected resonance between two water cities — Macao and Venice. Curated by Feng Yan and Ng Sio Ieng, the show’s narrative grew from a shortlisted proposal from the 2025 Macao Biennale’s Local Curatorial Project. Following a redesign and fresh selection process, three artists present newly commissioned works at this show — O Chi Wai and Lei Fong Ieng, both participated in the Macao Biennale previously, while Eric Fok joins ... Daniel Richter in his studio by Hanna Putz-Richter, 2020.

AMSTERDAM.- GRIMM is presenting Funky Dimes, a solo exhibition of new work by Daniel Richter, on view at the Amsterdam gallery from May 29 through July 11, 2026. This is Richter's sixth solo exhibition with the gallery, following two decades of representation. Daniel Richter’s work synthesizes art history, mass media, politics, and sex into ever-changing pictorial worlds. Richter rose to prominence in the 1990s with dense and brightly-colored abstract paintings recalling his work as an album cover designer for German punk bands in the 1980s. The year 2000 marked a significant stylistic change in Richter’s visual language, with new paintings focusing on figurative imagery drawn from newspapers and historical references rendered atmospheric and mysterious. As Daniel Baird describes, Richter’s work from this time exists in an “unresolveable zone between industrial rave, squatter riot, idle fantasy, global fear, drugged hallucination, and absurdist violence.”1 Since 2015, Rich ... LIVERPOOL.- Five leading galleries in Liverpool will host exhibitions on the life and work of the celebrated and popular Liverpool artist Julia Carter Preston (1926-2012), known for her distinctive ceramics. The programme, 'Celebrating Julia Carter Preston, Ceramicist' starts on Friday 11th September and includes a symposium looking at her art and its significance to postwar British ceramics. Julia Carter Preston was recognised for the role she played in reviving the technique of sgraffito in the twentieth century. With ancient origins and popularised in Renaissance Italy, sgraffito involves scratching through a coating of clay slip on a surface to reveal an underlying layer, creating contrasting decoration. Carter Preston used this technique to brilliant effect, often using metallic lustre glazes on a wide range of ceramics – bowls, plates, jars, tiles, even a complete dinner service. She was in great demand, commissioned to create ... More

steirischer herbst presents concept and artist list for 59th edition
GRAZ.- The 59th edition of steirischer herbst festival is titled “Red Flags”. Recently, the phrase “red flags” has become primarily associated with dating culture, where it works as a checklist of seemingly innocent habits preemptively interpreted as an omen for future toxic behavior. It is, of course, just a case of how suspicious and mistrustful we have become in general, alerted by minor deviations from the hard line. We tend to welcome cautionary regulations, privileging canceling over confrontation. This is a position steirischer herbst has been challenging for years, if not decades. Still, all over the world, and the quiet and prosperous Austrian province of Styria is no exception, we see many worrying signs indeed. Some might seem innocuous to an outsider, like the introduction of a new religious festival or a proposal for a house of Volkskultur; some are already ... More

On a day like today, American painter and academic Clyfford Still died
June 23, 1980. Clyfford Still (November 30, 1904 - June 23, 1980) was an American painter, and one of the leading figures in the first generation of abstract expressionists, who developed a new, powerful approach to painting in the years immediately following World War II, and is credited as one of the movement’s pioneers. His shift from representational to abstract painting occurred between 1938 and 1942, earlier than his colleagues like Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko, who continued to paint in figurative-surrealist styles well into the 1940s.
