Los Angeles Downtown Art Walk Announces Appointment of New Executive Director
Joe Moller brings to Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk a unique mix of experience running high-profile community and corporate events, civic arts programs and involvement with non-profit organizations.
LOS ANGELES, CA.- Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk, the nonprofit corporation that oversees the popular “Downtown Art Walk” event held on the second Thursday of each month in downtown Los Angeles, today announced the appointment of Joe Moller as the organization’s new Executive Director and entry into two partnerships with (Brand X) and LA Canvas magazine.

Joe Moller brings to Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk a unique mix of experience running high-profile community and corporate events, civic arts programs and involvement with non-profit organizations. Mr. Moller lives in the historic ore of downtown Los Angeles, has operated a successful event production business (under the name “Joe Moller Events”), previously served as Director for the City of Anaheim Parks and Recreation Arts Program and currently serves on the Board of youth-focused charity, KEEN LA. Mr. Moller’s company was responsible for producing events such as the Grand Opening of the newly renovated Santa Monica Place, the Hollywood Film Festival, the Outfest Opening Night Gala and launch of Dolce & Gabbana in Los Angeles.

“We are thrilled to find someone with Joe’s experience, reputation and qualifications to lead Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk,” said the organization’s Chairman David Hernand. “Joe is a dynamic personality who will bring tremendous energy and relevant experience to work with the downtown community to improve and bring sustainability to the Downtown Art Walk.”

Mr. Moller commented, “As a long time attendee of the Downtown Art Walk, and current downtown resident, I am excited to play a part in building and securing the future of this important event. The Downtown Art Walk, a uniquely Los Angeles experience, has contributed to improving the cultural vitality of downtown Los Angeles, and offers the potential to continue to develop and positively impact the community.”

Joe Moller’s appointment follows an extensive search undertaken by the Board of Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk to find a new Executive Director to lead the organization. Mr. Moller will report to the organization’s Board, whose members include Qathryn Brehm, Patti Berman, David Hernand, Pamela Huntoon, Marc Loge, Andre Miripolsky, Peklar Pilavjian, LaTanya Spann, Bonnie Tseng and Wicks Walker. Mr. Moller is Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk’s first full-time, salaried Executive Director, which is made possible by the continued financial support of downtown property owners.

Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk also announced new media partnerships with Brand X and LA Canvas to promote the Downtown Art Walk and distribute the Downtown Art Walk gallery map (design donated by FLUXbiz) for visitors to the monthly event. Starting in January 2011, both media companies will include the gallery map and other content about the Downtown Art Walk in their printed magazines distributed to 100,000+ readers in Southern California. Brand X is a sponsor of the Art Walk Lounge – the official visitor’s center of the Downtown Art Walk – and will assist in bringing other sponsors along with a fresh blend of special programming to the monthly lounge. LA Canvas will produce special events several times a year to coincide with LA Canvas issue launches.

“We are excited to partner with prominent, exciting media publications, each with their own unique footprints of net-savvy, smart-phone generation readers who embody the true pulse and spirit of downtown Los Angeles’ evolving culture. Our goal is to stay true to our constituents and promote Los Angeles’ premier monthly arts event for our galleries and the downtown artists’ scene,” said Board Secretary Bonnie Tseng. She added, “Brand X and LA Canvas are high quality, content-driven, multi-media publications that fully support and understand the community-driven, viral nature of the Downtown Art Walk.”

Brand X is Los Angeles’ multiplatform/multimedia field guide for defining “what’s next” in local news, tech and culture aimed at the globally conscious influencers involved in creating culture 2.0 through trend-spotting, -sharing and -making. It is free and available in print on Wednesdays at designated street boxes and retailers throughout Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley.

LA Canvas is a free lifestyle magazine that connects its readers to this flow of innovation by showcasing the latest and most exciting offerings to emerge from the city’s visionaries. Covering everything from music and fashion to film and tech, each issue of LA Canvas and the updated content on http://lacanvas.com is dedicated to the discovery of Los Angeles’ greatest new trends. Its pages are filled with in depth artist profiles, hot venue spotlights, vibrant photo spreads and comprehensive scoops for a crowd that inhales the glitz of a Hollywood bar as freely as it does the edginess of a downtown gallery opening.

The Downtown Art Walk is a free, public “museum without walls” held on the second Thursday of each month that attracts thousands of attendees to art galleries, formal and informal art events, restaurants, bars and street life in the historic core of downtown Los Angeles. The Downtown Art Walk is supported by approximately 40 art galleries and art studios, as well as community arts organizations, local merchants, businesses and residents. Conceived of in September 2004 by a group of gallery owners as a way to bring life and vitality back to Los Angeles’ “skid row,” the Downtown Art Walk now draws as many as 20,000 visitors to downtown Los Angeles each month, making this one of the largest regular community art events in the United States.
