Salmagundi Club Announces Art Workshops

NEW YORK, NY.- The Salmagundi Club, located at 47 Fifth Avenue, announced a series of art workshops. These intensive, 2-day, weekend workshops – in painting, drawing, watercolor, pastels - will inspire you with specific techniques and methods, as well as the chance to practice them. You will have the opportunity to learn from professional artists well-versed in teaching students at all levels, from beginner to highly skilled. Meet other like-minded art students, and enjoy the friendly, supportive approach of the Salmagundi Club workshop instructors. For more information and on-going updates as workshops are added, click here to visit our blog.

Taught by Thomas Valenti
Saturday & Sunday, October 10 & 11, 2009
10 am - 4 pm, one-hour lunch break
$300 Salmagundi Members, $350 for non-members.

Unlock the full potential of transparent watercolor painting in this highly informative and exciting workshop. Learn Valenti's self-taught method of working with tube-consistency watercolors - a sure-fire way of achieving effects not possible with "dried" cake pigments. Tom's style of teaching is clear, concise, and always enjoyable. With a limited palette of 9 colors, students will be guided through very simple color theory, color mixing, and a complete system for mixing an infinite variety of grays using only primary colors. Demonstrations will utilize a landscape format painted in a representational manner.

Taught by Max Ginsburg
Saturday & Sunday, October 24 & 25, 2009
9:30 am - 12:30 pm & 1:00 - 4:00 pm
$350 Salmagundi Members, $375 for non-members.

This workshop will concentrate on painting a head from life in a traditional manner using oil paints. The main goals of this workshop are to see the unique abstract forms on the model to achieve a greater reality - as in a Sargent painting; and to develop form to create depth and solidity in order to paint a solid head in an atmosphere - as in a Rembrandt painting. Ginsburg will demonstrate and give critiques as needed.

Taught by Christine Ivers
Saturday & Sunday, November 21 & 22, 2009
10 am - 4 pm, one-hour lunch break
$325 Salmagundi Members, $350 for non-members.

Put more excitement and interest in your pastel paintings by making your own unique painting surfaces. Creating what we paint on, as well as what we paint, is the focus of this workshop. Through the use of color, texture, and more, Chris will help students create, and then paint on, surfaces that add new dynamic dimensions to painting with pastel, the purest pigment of all painting media. This is great for any pastelist who is looking to explore new and challenging artistic avenues in a fun and relaxed environment. Perfect for all levels-beginner to advanced. Demonstration included.
