Kind Of, But Not Really: Emily Kozik, Alex Zak and Noelle Sharp

CHICAGO, IL.- The Barbara & Barbara Gallery presents Kind Of, But Not Really: featuring work by Emily Kozik, Alex Zak and Noelle Sharp. Emily Kozik is a student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Born in October, raised in Wisconsin, currently resides in Chicago. She indulges in MTV too often, wishes she was a better cook and spends a good amount of time surfing the internet for facts to fill her brain. Emily’s work uses found and forgotten photos as a means to introduce the question of history versus non-history and what we, as everyday people, consider important enough to remember through time. Using increased scale and repetition, she hopes to encourage the viewer to question their own history and what they choose to record as important.

Alex Zak is a student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Born and raised in St. Petersburg Florida, but if you spoke with him he would tell you he lives in Michigan as well. Alex’s works spans a variety of media including fibers, drawing, painting, and photography to name a few. He is also interested in collecting, and wears plaid unusually often. Alex’s work touches on his interests in spirituality, identity, and nature. His work in the show is about the interpretation of the past and nostalgic preservation.

Noelle Sharp, originally from the west-coast, currently living and working in Chicago while she attends The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Interest in the foundation of the fiber process, its structure and traditions stem from her strong upbringing with knitting. She spends too many hours hunting for yarn and making "instruments" out of found objects. Her work can be found in galleries in California, Salt Lake City and Chicago. She works with the installation of collections of mixed media materials and objects that mirror found photographs, which have been processed through a variety of mediums. In doing so Noelle creates a new dialogue, a language from and for a forgotten past, by using materials of fiber and color in the move towards invoking a memorable reaction.
