MESSINA.- Four paintings attributed to Renaissance master Antonello da Messina remain missing after a daring theft from the Museo Regionale di Messina in Sicily, where investigators are now examining surveillance footage and the circumstances surrounding the security breach. The crime has struck at the heart of a collection closely connected to Messina’s own turbulent history. The museum preserves hundreds of works tracing the city’s cultural development, including objects rescued from the destruction caused by the catastrophic 1908 earthquake. Among its best-known holdings are paintings by Antonello, who was born in Messina, as well as major works by Caravaggio. ZURICH.- From 2 October 2026 to 21 February 2027, the Kunsthaus Zrich presents the first exhibition to directly relate the works of the Austrian painter Maria Lassnig and the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch. Some 150 exhibits open up a fascinating dialogue around the body, perception and the cycle of life – and establish a new relationship between two exceptional artistic stances. Historically, art has dealt with death in many ways, such as memento mori and the Dance of Death, but here we would rather show how our relationship with death is constantly influenced by technology, religion and cultural expression," says Geir Haraldseth, curator at the National Museum. “Don’t be afraid. An exhibition about death” consists of nearly a hundred works, from antiquity via national romanticism to contemporary art. The artist’s new body of paintings presents a world where imagined interiors and fantastical landscapes become proxies for the human experience and our repressed animal instincts. Over the last few years Maloof has expanded her intimate painterly universe to include vast country landscapes. In this new body of work, she moves into public spaces, including a zoo and a restaurant. Every day, Maloof drops her daughters off at school before heading to her backyard studio in Massachusetts. August 16, 1968. Wolfgang Tillmans (born 16 August 1968) is a German fine-art photographer. His diverse body of work is distinguished by observation of his surroundings and an ongoing investigation of the photographic medium's foundations. Tillmans was the first photographer, and first non-British person, to be awarded the Turner Prize. He has been the subject of large-scale retrospectives at the Museum of Modern Art, Tate Modern and Moderna Museet. In 2023, Tillmans was named one of the most influential people in the world by Time.
