NEW YORK, NY.- From January 15 through April 19, 2026, the Morgan Library & Museum will display the painting Pietà (also known as Dead Christ Supported by Angels) (ca. 1470) by Giovanni Bellini (1424/26–1516), bringing this early Renaissance masterpiece to the United States for the first time. The exceptional loan of this masterwork from the Museo della Città in Rimini, Italy, follows a comprehensive conservation treatment made possible by Venetian Heritage, Inc. The painting will be on view in J. HARLEM, NY.- One of many inaugural exhibitions presented in the Studio Museum in Harlem’s new building, Tom Lloyd is a comprehensive display of the work of Tom Lloyd (1929–1996), the artist, educator, and activist whose innovative practice was the subject of the institution’s opening exhibition in 1968. When the Studio Museum opened in a rented loft on Fifth Avenue, its first solo exhibition was Electronic Refractions II, a presentation of Lloyd’s colorful abstract sculptures with lights that flashed in electronically programmed patterns. MADRID.- Lady Tz’aka’ab Ajaw, the ‘Red Queen’ of Palenque is the title of a special presentation at the Museo Thyssen of the funerary regalia of this historical figure from the 7th-century Mayan civilization, the wife of K’inich Janaab’ Pakal (known as Pakal the Great) who was one of the most important rulers of the city-state of Palenque (Chiapas, Mexico). Loaned from the Museo de Sitio de Palenque Alberto Ruz L’Huillier, the regalia consists of bracelets, necklaces and a funerary mask, among other objects, which demonstrate the power and relevance of women of the ruling elite of the time. DRESDEN.- The Albertinum in Dresden has added a powerful and long-overdue work to its collection: Aufbruch Straße (1988) by Leipzig-based painter Doris Ziegler. This marks Norsworthy’s second solo exhibition with the gallery. American Dream envisions the domestic interiors of Black middle-class life in scenes that hover between the achieved and the dreamed. The series includes ten collaged reliefs, made from photographs layered up to four inches deep. In these works, the construction remains visible in raw plywood edges, reflecting both the labor of cultural ascendancy and the performance that makes it visible.
