LONDON, ENGLAND.- Artist Rolf Harris will paint a portrait of the Queen as part of her 80th birthday celebrations. Harris stated he was "thrilled to bits". The Queen will celebrate her 80th birthday next April and the exhibition will begin at the end of this year or at the start of 2006. During the Queen’s life there have been more than 120 official portraits of her painted.
Rolf Harris, who has been made an MBE and OBE, said, "I want to get the real person rather than the state image."
He also said that the portrait will be "impressionistic" rather than "photographic". He added that he hoped it would also be "representational of the way the Queen looks and her obvious charm and friendly quality, rather than the very formal", he added.
