MIAMI, FLA.- When Ascaso Gallery opens Reciprocity this fall, visitors will enter more than a group exhibition. They will encounter a conversation across generations, a dialogue between Julio Larrazone of Latin Americas most imaginative paintersand eleven artists whose practices he has shaped through guidance, example, or inspiration. The idea for Reciprocity was born from a deep desire to bridge the gap between generations, Larraz reflects. Throughout my life, Ive received so much from those who came before me, and it seemed right and necessary to open a space where young artists, with whom I share affection and dialogue, could show their works alongside mine. Seeing them today in this exhibition is an act of celebration and continuity. For many of the participating artists, Larrazs influence is inseparable from their growth. His daughter Maia recalls, Julio ... More

A decade-long photographic exploration of Manhattan's West Side.
NEW YORK, NY.- Five Continents Editions announces the publication of Manhattan Project, a new photographic monograph by Jan Staller. For nearly fifty years, Staller has photographed the New York metropolitan area, with a sustained focus on Manhattans West Sidea personal Point Lobos. His work has long diverged from conventional views of the city. Instead of documenting icons and skylines, he creates expressive images that transform overlooked materials into art. Manhattan Project continues this vision. Photographed at construction sites throughout New York, the series isolates rebar, mesh, and other utilitarian materials against white grounds, revealing their sculptural and ephemeral qualities. Inspired by Eva Hesse, Gego, and Ellsworth Kelly, the images blur the boundaries between photography, drawing, painting, and sculpture. Neil deGrasse Tyson, in his foreword, writes: An artist photographer who sees what we dont see he reimagines the ... More

NEW YORK, NY.- Miles McEnery Gallery is presenting a focused survey of works by Esteban Vicente. The artists eighth solo exhibition at the gallery is on view through 25 October 2025. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated publication featuring an essay by Daniel Haxall, PhD. The only Spanish-born member of the first generation of the New York School of Abstract Expressionism, Esteban Vicente was a master colorist. While rooted in the energetic mark-making of Abstract Expressionism, Vicentes canvases resist bombast or overt drama. He was interested in what he described as the capacity of color to become light, and intentionally stripped away fanciful brushwork as a means of preserving a pure chromatic landscape, one where the artists hand receded. The distinct luminosity of Vicentes canvases is a testament to the success of his pursuit. The works ... More
Installation view of Anthony Olubunmi Akinbola: Camouflage at Sean Kelly, New York,September 5 October 18, 2025, Photography: Jason Wyche, Courtesy: Sean Kelly, New York/Los Angeles.
NEW YORK, NY.- Sean Kelly is presenting Camouflage, an exhibition of new paintings by Anthony Olubunmi Akinbola. Marking a pivotal moment in the artists practice nearly a decade after he first began working with durags as his primary material, this exhibition is the apotheosis of Akinbolas evolving relationship with durags and their cultural associations. Presenting a range of styles, this new body of work reflects a shift from overt sociopolitical commentary toward a more nuanced, materially focused inquiry, centering on the durags formal potential, chromatic variation, and emotional resonance. Titled in homage to Akinbolas earliest durag works, Camouflage explores the idea of metamorphosis, how a material, like identity, can adapt, evolve, and carry multiple readings at the same time. Akinbolas durag paintings, which once spoke primarily to themes of assimilation, stereotype, and Black identity, now reveal themselves equally ... More

AMSTERDAM.- On November 15th, the monograph Jan van der Vaart. Master potter will be published at the initiative of Cometa* Stichting voor kunstboekpublicaties. This is the first major publication about the most important post-war Dutch ceramicist since 1991, exactly 25 years after his death. The publication coincides with the opening of a major retrospective about Jan van der Vaart at the Kunstmuseum Den Haag (The Hague). Making pots is donkey work, not a genteel undertaking in which your hands are guided by God. It was with this mentality that Jan van der Vaart (1931-2000) created a magnificent body of vases and other everyday objects. He had no cause to complain in his lifetime about a lack of acknowledgement of his remarkable craftsmanship. In his fifty years as a potter, his artistry was warmly embraced by critics, collectors, museums and the state. Early in his career he was recognised as the most important Dutch ceramicist of his generation, a status emphasised by an endless successi ... More

"Back in the USSR" exhibition unveils rare glimpse into Soviet underground art scene PARIS.- The exhibition "Back in the USSR Artists of Perestroika" brings together a series of photographs taken by Michael von Graffenried in Moscow in the spring of 1988, on the threshold of an uncertain turning point. Nearly forty years later, the exhibition at ESPACE MVG in Paris presents a selection of these prints, which continue to question the role of the artist in the face of authoritarianism, both then and now. Just months before the fall of the Berlin Wall, as Perestroika ("restructuring") and Glasnost ("transparency") carried a wind of reform into a faltering Soviet Union, Graffenried immersed himself in Moscows underground art scene. In studios, and more rarely in public spaces, he met and photographed artists whose freedom of expression remained precarious despite the liberalization announced by Gorbachev. The series bears witness to the resilience ... More

Esther Schipper now representing Rafa Silvares BERLIN.- Esther Schipper announced the representation of Rafa Silvares. Rafa Silvares was born in 1984 in Santos, Brazil. He holds a BFA from FAAP (Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado), São Paulo and a BA in Language and Literature from the Faculty of Philosophy, Languages, and Human Sciences (FFLCH) at the University of São Paulo. The artist lives and works in Berlin. In Rafa Silvares's work, time appears arrested and space collapsed onto itself. Amidst the seductiveness of their smooth surface and the visual pleasure of expanses of brilliant color, we have an intuitive understanding of the allegorical nature of his paintings. Their frozen movements evoke the end of the belief in the inherent benefit of progress. The static fluidity of their massesbe they natural formations (water, mud, or lava) or expelled from human-made machinery (pipes, pistons, or washers) ... More

Chant Avedissian's final vision unveiled in new exhibition MADRID.- Sabrina Amrani is presenting Chant Avedissian: Go East, Young Man, an exhibition by the late artist Chant Avedissian. The exhibition Go East, Young Man is dedicated to Chant Avedissian (19512018), one of the most singular and rich voices of contemporary Egyptian art. Far from being a conventional retrospective, the exhibition is structured around an intimate and decisive document: the autobiography that the artist wrote himself shortly before his death. This brief and fragmentary text, in which travels, exhibitions, friendships, and personal episodes intertwine, is not only a biographical testimony but also an aesthetic and political statement about which events, people, and moments he chose to preserve as his legacy. Avedissians handwritten biography has been transcribed verbatim in vinyl on the gallery walls, forming a timeline that encircles the exhibition ... More
Fall 2025 exhibitions opening at the Museum of Northwest Art LA CONNER, WA.- Fall 2025 launches an exciting selection of fresh programs including two new contemporary art exhibitions celebrating painting in the Pacific Northwest. Both exhibitions offer a look into the current state of painting in the region. The diverse selection of work demonstrate how current artists are engaging this storied medium in ways which tie in investigations of art history, examinations of the self, society, and nature, and the formal and material potentials of paint. In much the same way that the body requires a diverse variety of vitamins to remain healthy, function properly, and to grow, the visual arts rely on a regimen of media and practices that are integral to its well-being. Steadfast among those visual and material supplements is Vitamin P- Painting. A central pillar of Western art, over the past century the practice of painting has undergone seismic transformations, been declared dead, ... More

Blanca Gracia 'Tornapiel' opens at Cooke Latham Gallery LONDON.- At the heart of Blanca Gracias exhibition lies the concept of body horror, the societal revulsion towards a bodily other that fails to conform to a heteronormative standard. With its roots in Greek myth and its more recent tendrils woven throughout the contemporary horror genre, Gracia challenges these bodily fictions to create a new and celebratory manifestation of a body in revolt. A giant constellation of sculptural organs float, seemingly untethered, in the gallery space. Their scale conjures the idea of a forest through which the visitor can walk; an arboreal encounter with a monstrous internal female landscape. The accompanying audio work merges sounds of the forest and the body, wind and heartbeat, again aligning the idea of the body as a potential wilderness, the site of outcasts, of beasts, of mythical beings. It harnesses a feeling of vulnerability towards a world less dominated by societal constructs and teases the listener with the known audio ... More
