Is Ashwagandha really works for better sleep?

One in three adults in the world are faced with the challenge of having a good night sleep. Numerous pressures from the workplace, kids, balancing home and career has led to many people developing different health problems. This has resulted in adopting different ways of treatment including sleeping pills, alcohol and other types of drugs. Continuous use of sleeping pills can be addictive and after prolonged use, the pills may end up reducing its effectiveness. Hence, there is a better way of treating sleeping disorders using natural remedies and non-addictive herbs in order to combat insomnia and other sleeping related disorders.

One of the most recommended natural herbs is Ashwagandha, Ashwagandha which is also known as winter cherry or Indian ginseng helps in relaxation of the body and improving healthy sleep. This herb helps to support healthy sleep by rejuvenating the body and help in addressing stress-related exhaustion. The herb has been rated as the best remedy to regulate hormones and help the body in coping with stress.
Here are five ways that Ashwagandha supports healthy sleep.

Lower stress hormones
One main cause of insomnia in most of the adults is the overproduction of stress hormones known as cortisol. According to research conducted, cortisol production should decrease during the night to prepare for sleep. Elevation of the hormones during the night may make it hard to sleep. Stress may be caused by many things related to day to day struggles and also the comfort of the bed may also contribute to an increase in stress. To avoid bed stress it is advisable to look for a good mattress so that you can have comfortable bed rest. Ashwagandha helps in lowering such hormones and hence sleeping like a baby.

The worry Effect
When the body is worried, not only does it lack enough energy to calm the mind down but also makes it difficult to sleep. According to research conducted Ashwagandha has shown it has a positive effect on the neural receptors responsible for GABA.

Blood sugar effect
One of the main reasons why most people wake up at night is that the levels of blood sugar become unstable. The body is designed to burn fats at night and produce blood sugar. According to studies, Ashwagandha ensures that sugar levels and fat levels are stable in the body at night and hence a good night sleeps.

Toxic brain effect
There has been an increase in environmental pollution all over the world and this has had numerous impacts on our health. Most of the toxins in our environment are fat soluble and they get a way to get into the brain. Ashwagandha helps in cleaning the toxins in the brain and enable a good sleep.

The fat burning effect
The most effective way to ensure that you have a good night sleep is finding a way to ensure that your body has the ability to burn fat effectively. Fat is a slow burning fuel that provides the body with a long-lasting fuel to have a good night sleep. Ashwagandha helps in ensuring there is an effective fat burning and thus a good night sleep.

Risks and allergies
Ashwagandha is the safest drug to use to help you with your sleeping disorders but once the drug is overused or abused it may affect your body. There is no specified dosage of Ashwagandha, but you can consult a doctor to know what the right dosage is for Ashwagandha. If Ashwagandha is consumed in large quantities it may cause some stomach upsets such as diarrhea and vomiting.

Here are special precautions and warnings.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
It is not advisable to use Ashwagandha if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. According to some research use of Ashwagandha during pregnancy may result in miscarriage.

Diabetes
Sometimes Ashwagandha medication might lower the blood sugar levels, this could interfere with the medication used for diabetes. So if you are diabetic lower your sugar closely.

High or low blood sugar
Ashwagandha may decrease blood pressure and causing blood pressure to go low with people with low blood pressure and interfere with the medication for those with high blood pressure.

Surgery
If you are expected to go for a surgery, it is advisable to stop using Ashwagandha two weeks before the surgery. This is because it affects the nervous system and therefore other medication used at the surgery may have an increased effect.

Thyroid disorder
Ashwagandha may increase the hormonal levels in the body, this may affect the medication provided for thyroid disorder. If you have any of the above-mentioned diseases or conditions then Ashwagandha is not for you.

Lack of sleep may be caused all the above-mentioned challenges but the first tip to ensure that you have a good night sleep is ensuring you have a comfortable bed with a comfortable mattress. Some people lack good sleep because on the beds they sleep on have the mattress that is too rigid and others are too worn out to sleep on therefore when choosing the right mattress you should ensure it is comfortable enough.
