Paddle8 announces 'Through Warhol's Lens': A sale dedicated to the photography of Andy Warhol

NEW YORK, NY.- Paddle8, the leading online auction house, announces Through Warhol’s Lens, a sale dedicated to the photography of Andy Warhol. Featuring more than 40 black-and-white Gelatin Silver Prints and color polaroids, the range of works present a visual diary of Warhol’s world: from intimate snap shots of celebrity friends to behind the scenes views into his process for portrait commissions from 1974 – 1986. The sale will be live to bidders worldwide November 16 – 28.

Highlights of the sale include candid photographs of the era’s superstars of music, art, fashion, literature, film and politics including subjects such as Diana Ross, Debbie Harry, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Grace Jones, Nancy Reagan, Truman Capote, William S. Burroughs, Halston, Liza Minelli and Joseph Beuys. Beyond the bold-faced-names, these works also offer an intimate snapshot into Warhol’s artistic process which often began with a photograph or polaroid. By the later years of his career Warhol’s portrait commissions were a focus of his artistic output, famously stating: “Being good in business is the most fascinating kind of art.”

• Truman Capote, c.1978, Gelatin silver print. Estimate: $4,000 - $6,000.

• Andre Leon Talley, 1984, Polaroid Polacolor Type 108 print. Estimate: $8,000 - $12,000.

• Bob Colacello in Drag, 1973, Polaroid Polacolor Type 108 print. Estimate: $6,000- $8,000.

• Diana Ross, 1981, Polaroid Polacolor Type 108 print. Estimate: $10,000 - 15,000.

• Diana Vreeland (Hand on Chest), 1973, Polaroid Polacolor Type 108 print. Estimate: $10,000 - $15,000.
