DURANGO.- A photographic archive comprising some 130,000 negatives is being reconsidered as one of the most important visual records of Fresnillo, Zacatecas, documenting the transformation of the historic mining community and the lives of generations of its residents. The archive was created by photographer Ricardo Sánchez Ortega (1911–2000), whose studio became such a familiar presence in Fresnillo that photography specialist Juan Carlos Basabe Bañuelos remarked that a true Fresnillo household would typically have one of Sánchez Ortega’s portraits hanging on its walls. Basabe, head of Communications at the Zacatecas Center of Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History, discussed the photographer’s legacy during the International Colloquium on the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro in Durango. Osteometric study reveals unexpected diversity among nuns of historic Mexico City convent MEXICO CITY.- The skeletal remains of women buried at Mexico City’s former Convent of San Jerónimo are challenging long-held assumptions about who was admitted to one of New Spain’s religious communities. A new study of nuns who lived at the convent between the 16th and 19th centuries indicates that the congregation was considerably more diverse than surviving historical records had suggested. September 04, 1888. Oskar Schlemmer (4 September 1888 - 13 April 1943) was a German painter, sculptor, designer and choreographer associated with the Bauhaus school. In 1923, he was hired as Master of Form at the Bauhaus theatre workshop, after working at the workshop of sculpture. His most famous work is Triadisches Ballett (Triadic Ballet), which saw costumed actors transformed into geometrical representations of the human body in what he described as a "party of form and colour".
