NEW YORK, NY.- When Benoît Maire first encountered Japanese aestheticsand the cultures deep affection for catshe was immediately struck by the animals intuitive relationship to space. A visit to the Kyoto studio of legendary potter Kanjiro Kawai proved formative, as Maire observed the way a cat (Neko in Japanese) moved freely through the workshop: climbing, resting, stretching, and inhabiting space with quiet intelligence. This moment became the catalyst for Benoît Maire: The Neko Collection, which opens with an artists reception at the Valerie Goodman Gallery, on April 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The exhibition opens to the public the next day and runs through June 19. The exhibition presents Maires latest hand-fabricated furniture and sculptural works, which treats furniture as something to be engaged with actively rather than passively used. The five piece ... Sulphide marble with an encased standing, painted brown bear holding a log on a green glass base, 1½ inches in diameter and featuring a nice faceted pontil, graded 9.2. Sold for $6,150.
DENVER, PA.- A shrunken core onionskin marble with colors of white, yellow, orange and blue soared to $36,285, and a scarce pink opaque lutz marble with red bands finished at $28,290 at a Premier Marbles auction held April 11 at Morphy Auctions flagship gallery. The best of the best in the booming hobby of marble collecting was on full display in the auction, which was packed with 478 quality lots. The wildly-colorful shrunken core onionskin marble boasted the perfect amount of floating mica to allow the core to be seen. It was expected to do well, having a high estimate of $30,000. But eager bidders pushed that to a final price of $36,285, making it the top lot of the auction. The marble, 2¼ inches in diameter and graded 9.7, showed a few as-made indentations, or hot spots. The rare pink opaque lutz marble with red bands also came into the sale with high expectations. It had a pre-sale ... More |

Arlequin (Buste), est. $40m.
NEW YORK, NY.- This May, Sothebys will offer works from the collection of Adele and Enrico Donati, two leading figures in New Yorks creative circles. A highly important presence within the Surrealist milieu, Enrico Donati, often referred to as the last Surrealist, was at once an artist and trusted confidant to many of the movements leading figures, counting Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst and André Breton among his close friends. Alongside him was his wife Adele Donati, a designer and artist, who viewed the collection with a discerning eye, informed by her work across advertising and fashion. The collection, which was rarely exhibited publicly, reflects the breadth of Enricos close friendships and influences. It is led by Pablo Picassos Arlequin (Buste), est. in the region of $40m, one of the artists most significant early Cubist portraits, created just two years after Les Demoiselles dAvignon. James McNeill Whistler: Largest European retrospective in 30 years |

Pierpaolo Campanini, Senza Titolo, 2026.
MILAN.- kaufmann repetto is presenting Un cuore semplice (A Simple Heart), Pierpaolo Campaninis eighth solo exhibition with the gallery. Borrowed from Gustave Flauberts 1877 short story Un cur simple, the title evokes a world in which devotion attaches itself to modest things and, through repetition and solitude, transforms them into images of unexpected intensity. In Flaubert, the life of the humble servant Félicité is marked by a succession of losses of people she holds dear, culminating in her almost mystical devotion to a parrot and, later, to its preserved remains. The artist engages with this emotional register, dwelling in the moment in which affection takes form, and form begins to detach from reality, acquiring an autonomous presence, almost a sacred residue. Campaninis works develop through a layered process that moves between physical construction and digital elaboration. Objects assembled in the studio are ... More |

Paula Rego, Study for The Soldier's Daughter, 1987.
LONDON.- Victoria Miro is presenting a major exhibition of drawings and works on paper by Paula Rego (19352022). The most comprehensive exhibition of Regos drawings to date, Story Line features works from the 1950s until the artists death, shining new light on Regos evolving use of line in media from pen and ink to pastel, conté, charcoal and pencil, and how it was driven by her unique approach to storytelling throughout her life. The exhibition is accompanied by a new book written by the artists son, Nick Willing. When you write your story
invention comes when you do a drawing. As you are drawing something, it very often turns into something else, and you can go with it. It develops in a completely different way, its organic and its done with the hand. The hand makes it change and so on. AMSTERDAM.- The Van Gogh Museum and The Mesdag Collection present the largest European retrospective of work by James McNeill Whistler (18341903) in thirty years and the first ever to be held in the Netherlands. The project was developed in collaboration with Tate Britain. Whistler was one of the most influential and controversial artists of the nineteenth century. He was also a fervent advocate of the idea that art need not serve a moral, social or political purpose, but exists purely for its own beauty. Born in the United States, Whistler moved to Paris aged twenty-one and divided his time between Paris and London for nearly fifty years, moving in the circles of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Gustave Courbet, Edouard Manet and ... LJUBLJANA.- Stories Beyond the Radar conference takes place around Walid Raads exhibition at Moderna galerija in Ljubljana, where stories, photographs, videos, sculptures, and installations explore how worlds are built, inhabited, and narrated, and how objects, images, and stories shape both our historical and imaginary landscapes. The conference examines how contemporary art and theory respond to a reality marked by multiple temporalitieslabyrinthine, non-linear, digital, instantaneous, eternal, asynchronous, and speculative, among othersand asks how we might rethink art history, traditions, and the museums of the future under such conditions. The conference refers to the present time as a manifestly interrupted one, not only because we live in a time of interrupted attention but for deeper structural reasons: Whereas modernity oriented itself toward the future and conceived time as continuity and progress, ...
