Saint Louis Art Museum Announces February Family Sundays

SAINT LOUIS, MO.- The Saint Louis Art Museum announces Family Sundays: "Make a Good Impression," a program of art projects and tours for families each Sunday in February from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

During the month of February, "Make a Good Impression" will focus on the art of printmaking. Families are invited to Sculpture Hall to create their own masterpieces in multiples while exploring a variety of techniques and materials inspired by art in the Museum. Each week's art activity is planned so that all ages can have fun and create together. Every Sunday at 2:30 pm, a lively 30-minute tour will guide families through the Museum's collection and highlight pieces that inspired the art projects.

Once a month, the Family Sunday program features a special family performance, film, or artist demonstration to expand on the featured theme. In February, the featured visit will occur on the last Sunday and include artists who make their living making good impressions—the printmakers at Firecracker Press. They will be in Sculpture Hall to show off their printmaking equipment and techniques.

"The Family Sunday programs offer a wonderful way to spend an afternoon with the family having fun together while learning about the collection at the Museum," says Bill Appleton, assistant director for public programs and education.

Each month the Family Sunday program features a different, family-friendly theme. Each week's art activity is appropriate for all ages and skill levels. "Family tours are geared specifically toward children—they focus on only a few works of art, and invite creative interaction through games, stories, activities, and idea sharing," said Appleton.

For over 17 years the Education Department at the Saint Louis Art Museum has provided free weekend programs for families. Originally offered only a few times a year, the family programs were so popular that they eventually became monthly programs and six years ago, weekly. Today the Family Sunday program attracts over 10,000 children and adults to the Museum each year and is supported by Macy's.
