AMSTERDAM.- STRAAT Museum presents a remarkable group show featuring hobo moniker artworks. This exhibition is curated by Moniker Art, supported by Moniker Foundation of London (UK) and with the cooperation of Massillon Museum of Ohio (US). The exhibition spotlights iconic moniker tradition artists buZ Blurr, Bill Daniel, and other visionary contributors.

Hobos, self-branded renegade migrants navigating the American rails, started leaving their moniker creations and hobo code graffiti as early as the late 1800’s.

A moniker (also known as a streak, tag, or hobo art) is a piece of graffiti, traditionally found on the side of American freight trains. Moniker: An Origin Story, is an exhibition that delves into the captivating history and significant influence of hobo monikers on the ever-evolving street art and graffiti culture. Embark on a journey through this mysterious subculture, showcasing the extraordinary contributions of trailblazing artists buZ Blurr and Bill Daniel.

buZ Blurr, the legendary Colossus of Roads (1943 - 2024) takes center stage as a pioneer in Hobo Moniker creation. Witness a display of his original works on various unconventional materials, offering a glimpse into the soul of this enigmatic artist. In a heartfelt tribute, we also acknowledge the passing of the beloved Blurr in January 2024, as this group show of like-minded makers now takes on an even more poignant role in honoring his lasting legacy.

Bill Daniel, a luminary photographer and filmmaker dedicated to documenting Hobo culture for over three decades, invites you to experience the magic of his lens. The exhibition showcases Daniel's iconic photographs, accompanied by the screening of his cult-classic documentary 'Who Is Bozo Texino?'

In addition to the focus on buZ Blurr and Bill Daniel, Moniker: An Origin Story will also present a group of 37 boxcar steel panels on loan from Massillon Museum. These panels feature unique moniker artworks from both living and departed artists within the tradition. Come and explore this rich graffiti proto-culture that influenced giants in the realm of street art, including Jean-Michel Basquiat (SAMO) and Keith Haring.

STRAAT will also feature an addition from the exhibition in the museum's main hall, where a colossal photo by Bill Daniel of buZ Blurr will become part of the permanent collection.
