Oleg Firer, world-famous rum, Grenada star obituaries and other noteworthy aspects of Grenada lifestyle

Grenada is an amazing island state in the Caribbean. You will learn some curious facts about it from this article.

When planning your holidays, you might get curious about the small Caribbean state of Grenada. It is located close to the Venezuelan coast and consists of three large islands and numerous smaller ones. Its tropical climate, highly instagrammable landscapes and laidback lifestyle attract tourists from all over the world. In this article, you will find a digest of 5 aspects of Grenadian life that might impress you.

The National Economy Does Not Depend Only on Tourism
This territory's official nickname is "the Isle of Spice". It is one of the biggest global nutmeg producers, second only to Indonesia. Besides, Grenada's residents catch tuna, grow cocoa and produce chocolate, make world-famous rum and export a lot of bananas. Grenada girls and boys are lucky to grow up in an environment where they have all-year-round access to ripe fruits and fresh seafood. Many farmers offer excursions for foreigners: you can visit, for instance, a 17th-century cocoa plantation or the oldest water-propelled rum distillery in the Caribbean that is still in operation.

There Are Over 30 Popular Diving Spots in Grenada Waters
Plus dozens of lesser-known ones. Grenadian girls and boys start to frequent serene local beaches almost as soon as they are born. In a few years, they learn how to scuba dive. You can take a boat and sail to a shipwreck spot — or choose a nice location close to the shore and admire the reefs and the lush marine life.

One of the unique objects that divers should visit is the Underwater Sculpture Park, situated off the west coast of Grenada. Since the natural reefs were too much damaged, they were replaced by man-made sculptures built from concrete and rebar. Fish and other living creatures appreciated this idea. Thanks to the sculptures, the marine life in the area became much more diverse.

A Hurricane Might Hit the Island at the Least Expected Moment
This problem is typical of all the Caribbean region. In 2004, hurricane Ivan turned out to be the worst in the island's history. 90% of the territory was devastated and the Prime Minister declared a national disaster. It is unlikely that the situation would repeat any time soon. Nevertheless, when you are on holiday in Grenada, you should check the weather forecast at least once per day.

Obituaries Are a Meaningful Part of Local Media Content
If you check Grenada news now, you might be surprised by the abundance of obituaries. The most popular sources of this type of news are the Grenada Star obituary section and the obituaries Grenada Connection page. For residents of cosmopolitan cities, the tradition of publicly sharing the news about someone's death might seem a bit obsolete. But it is an important component of local culture. When Grenadians meet in the street, they greet each other even if they do not know each other. When you drive in an unfamiliar area and see someone whom you will hardly ever meet again, you should wave them from your car. In such a polite and respectful society, it seems natural that people inform community members about funerals.

A Soviet Emigrant Largely Contributes to Grenada's Prosperity
His name is Oleg Firer. He was born in the Ukraine in 1977 and relocated to New York with his parents twelve years later. Mr.Firer started his impressive career when he was just 16 years old. He gained impressive expertise in the sphere of online payments and founded Star Capital company in Miami. He came to Grenada to develop telemedicine and blockchain technologies. The local authorities were impressed with Oleg's immense vital energy, vast knowledge and managerial skills. They provided him their support and rewarded him with Grenadian citizenship. Then, Mr.Firer became Grenada's ambassador in the Russian Federation. That was quite a surprise appointment. Oleg has never worked for Russian Embassy Miami or other similar institutions. He had no previous experience in the sphere of diplomacy. But he proved to be an ideal candidate for this role and he keeps on doing plenty of good things for Grenada.

Hopefully, this information inspired you! When you go to Grenada, you will enjoy every moment of your trip. This welcoming and picturesque country is a true gem of the Caribbean.
