One of the greatest things that separate humans from other animals is our ability to create. Whether were working with our hands to build instruments and houses, or working with a blank canvas to bring forth a work of art, human beings can imagine beautiful things in their minds and bring them to life! Among the 7 billion people who currently live on the planet, some of us are more artistically inclined than the others. Some of us are good at music, some of us at drawing and painting, and some of us have a way with words. Yes, this is an art form too and a glorious one at that! Say what you will, almost everyone considers writing as a kind of art.
There is no question that creating arts takes time and effort. Some artists spend their life working on their masterpieces and dont even gain recognition during their lifespans. Some have gained posthumous fame and some artworks dont even see the light of day. And yet, we dont stop creating because one does it out of passion. It must be remembered that not everyone is gifted with written skills. If you find yourself struggling, you may think I need someone to
write my apa paper for me. And thats perfectly fine since writing, like many other artforms, is an acquired skill and can get better with time.
How can a string of words form art?
Some people question whether or not to include the written form among the other generally considered skills such as sculpturing, music, and drawing. When we think of penmanship, we mustnt only dwell on academic and official works but rather on the expressionism aspect of it. All of us are familiar with poetry wherein the author delicately strings together a chosen selection of letters, much like a florist picks out the best flowers to create a beautiful floral bouquet.
While poetry is generally considered a
creative activity, anything else that is written to express ones emotions eloquently can also be considered likewise. Anything that stirs on your creative heartstrings can and does comprise beauty. As such, any one of us who can form a comprehensive sentence and express our emotions on paper can consider ourselves artists!
Why is writing considered art, though?
Here are some of the reasons why penning your thoughts is so much more than simply jotting down a couple of sentences.
1. We can express ourselves:
We have been taught to read and write from a very early age. Some of us may never take our skills beyond our academic pursuits, but the rest is quite good with the written skills and apply them to various creative endeavors. For instance, journaling has been known to be an incredibly imaginative activity that requires ones passion and effort. By journaling about our days or imagining a future and jotting it down for future reference, we express our emotions and thoughts. So many literary masterpieces have been born from authors who were simply jotting down their thought processes.
2. We can tell stories:
We are the main character in our life story! Each of us has a different beginning and a different path that we wish to follow. Even though it may not be as exciting as we wish it to be, this life we live is a story: one that can be presented to the world. Our vivid senses of memories and imaginations set us apart from the rest. We can conjure up all kinds of stories, real and fictional, and let them be known to the other readers out there. Since we are all given the gift of language, it is only right that we pen down our stories.
3. We can influence people:
Sometimes, we dont even know the
impact of our thoughts and how much it can resonate with our readers. When Viktor E. Frankl wrote his book Mans search for meaning, he wished to do so anonymously and only wanted it to be an outlet for everything he learned during his time at the Concentration camps. And yet, when the book came out, it was an international sensation. Through his memoir, Frankl managed to influence millions of people, and teach them that even after all the suffering, there is a meaning and purpose to life. Such is the power of writing. It can make and break regimes, it can stir a persons thought process, and it can change a man for the better!
4. It can challenge you:
Sure, every one of us can write. But how many of us are actually good at it? And by good at it, we dont mean using the correct grammatical format and having the correct spellings. How many of us can sit down and express our deepest emotions in a beautiful, eloquent manner that can have the readers re-reading our work? This is a challenging artwork, as challenging as composing songs or sculpting stone to turn it into an immortal statue! Just like cooking, this skill asks you to choose from a variety of spices and mix them to form a dish that simply melts in your mouth. Its challenging, yes, but its worth it.
5. It lives on forever:
Art doesnt die. It never will. Death is one of the greatest truths of life, and every one of us wants to make an impact before we go. We may not leave behind much, but we can leave behind our thoughts. Several authors live on, even today, years after their death because of the art they put out into the world. Not all of us may gain such fame, but maybe the art form we leave behind can resonate with generations that come after us. You never know!
Writing is a beautiful art that can impact even the greatest minds. By penning down our emotions, we embark on a journey that may resonate with the readers and that thought in itself is beautiful.
