LONDON.- Pioneering global superstars BTS join the line up for do it (around the world), a new chapter of Hans Ulrich Obrists exhibition-in-progress, which for 27 years has tapped creative luminaries to share simple instructions for how to make an artwork that anyone can do.
BTS do it conveys the importance of connecting beyond boundaries. It resonates with the message BTS has been sharing through their music and other activities, including the UN Speak Yourself speech and CONNECT, BTS project.
BTS join creative figures across disciplines who have shared their own do its. Other musicians contributing so far include Arca and Kelsey Lu; artists include Olafur Eliasson, Oscar Murillo, Precious Okoyomon, Shawanda Corbett, Patrick Staff and Ian Cheng; designers include Virgil Abloh and Es Devlin.
These short instructions from artists are designed to be simple enough that anyone can interpret, recreate and rephrase freely in their own way at home; audiences can share their interpretations on social media using #doitaroundtheworld.
This is the second time BTS have worked with the Serpentine. Earlier this year the Serpentine presented Catharsis by Danish artist Jakob Kudsk Steensen as part of CONNECT, BTS, a series of global public art projects resonating BTS philosophy, launched in five cities on four continents. Catharsis immersed audiences within a digital simulation of a re-imagined old-growth forest, and was presented in the ground of the Galleries and online via twitch.
Contributions to do it (around the world) are premiered alongside a set of archival instructions intended for the home environment on a new hub created by Google Arts & Culture
g.co/doitaroundtheworld. New do its are uploaded weekly, shared on social media and available through the Bloomberg Connects App
