SANTA ANA, CA.- The antiques trade lost veteran auctioneer
Don Presley earlier this year, but the company that bears his name is carrying on Presleys tradition with a March 19 auction loaded with the exquisite European antiques he loved to handle. Many of the major names in decorative arts Daum, Galle, KPM, Lalique, Tiffany and more are found throughout the 192-lot catalog.
Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through
LiveAuctioneers.
A top highlight is a 1920s Art Deco harlequin lamp (above) designed by J.B. Hirsch. Its stepped alabaster base measures 10 3/4 by 15 1/2 by 6 inches.
An Art Deco torchere having an amber art glass shade and a hand-forged black iron base is very much in the style of Paul Kiss. Topped with an acid-cut, Daum-style shade, the lamp stands 70 inches high.
Bidding starts at $100 on a Tiffany-style pair of fleur-de-lis bronze candleholders with green glass grape-shaped bobeches.
Mounted on a triple-layer marble base and standing 20 inches tall is a beautifully posed female figure titled Renaissance Girl. A label reads Gori Affortunato Gori (1895-1925 Italian). Having studied at Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Gori worked in marble, bronze, ivory, often combining these materials in so-called chryselephantine figures.
More than a dozen lots of Chinese antiques offered in the auction include several brush pots and large carved stone stamp.
Featured in a selection of estate jewelry are an 18K white gold and diamond bracelet and a 2.32 diamond solitaire yellow gold ring.
Two pieces of contemporary Ephraim art pottery are offered in the sale, including a 10-inch Blackberry vase.
