CLEVELAND, OH.- In honor of the late British Director David Lean's centenary, the Cleveland Museum of Art will feature four of his early films this February. The films--two comedies and two dramas--were each recently restored by the British Film Institute.

Fans of Lean's landscapes in Lawrence of Arabia, Dr. Zhivago and Bridge of the River Kwai will also enjoy the more intimate settings of Lean's earlier works. Included in the series is the Oscarwinning Blithe Spirit, a comedy-fantasy about a man's happy second marriage being interrupted by the mischievous ghost of his first wife.

Known for his panoramic shots and artful use of the entire big screen, Lean is one of Britain’s most influential filmmakers. Five of Lean's films landed in the British Film Institute's top 30 of the 100 Best British Films of the 20th Century. The multiple Oscar-winner's cinematic approach is one that continues to be emulated.

All films will be shown in the Morley Lecture Hall located at 11150 East Boulevard in University Circle. Admission prices to museum films are: general public $8, CMA member $, seniors 65 and over $5, students $4, or one Panorama voucher. Panorama Film Series vouchers (in books of 10) cost $55 for the general public, $45 for CMA members.
