DRESDEN.- A new exhibition at the Kupferstich-Kabinett (Cabinet of Prints, Drawings and Photographs) in Dresden is offering a unique perspective on technology and memory. Opened on March 20th, 2025, "AKZENT Mind the Gap!" features the intriguing work of Alexander Endrullat, an artist who transforms obsolete laptops and computers into both printed images and sculptural objects.

Endrullat's art invites viewers to consider the intimate relationship we have with our electronic devices. These everyday tools, often taken for granted, hold personal histories and the residue of our daily lives. By repurposing them, Endrullat gives these discarded items a new voice.

The exhibition showcases seven pieces from his graphic series "Off the Grid." These works, some created specifically for this show, are prints made directly from the surfaces of old laptops. The resulting images bear a striking resemblance to shadowy portraits, revealing unexpected details of the devices' internal structures. The textures and lines evoke the delicate quality of drawings, embossed works, or even Japanese ink paintings. Stripped of their functionality, the damaged and worn machines offer a poignant glimpse into their past.

Adding another layer to the exploration of unusual printing processes, Endrullat's contemporary pieces are thoughtfully placed alongside historical works from the Kupferstich-Kabinett's own collection. This includes the rarely seen handprints of dancer Gret Palucca and two uncommon works by Dresden artists Hermann Glöckner and Wilhelm Müller. The juxtaposition highlights the enduring artistic interest in using everyday objects to capture memories, explore the world, and leave traces behind.

"AKZENT Mind the Gap!" is a collaborative effort between the SKD and the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden, providing a platform for alumni to share their work with the public. This particular exhibition marks the latest in this series, fostering a dialogue between the Kupferstich-Kabinett's collection and the perspectives of emerging artists.

Alexander Endrullat, who completed his postgraduate studies at HfBK Dresden in 2022, has previously exhibited at the SKD. This exhibition further solidifies his connection with the institution.

For those interested in hearing more about the artist's process and the themes of the exhibition, an artist talk with Alexander Endrullat and curator Ksenija Tschetschik-Hammerl is scheduled for Friday, March 28th, at 3 PM.

In a notable development, the Verein der Freunde des Kupferstich-Kabinetts has facilitated the acquisition of two works from Endrullat's "Off the Grid" series for the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. Additionally, the artist has generously donated another print from the same series to the Kupferstich-Kabinett's collection, ensuring these unique works will be preserved for the future.

The exhibition runs until April 7th, 2025, at the Residenzschloss in Dresden.
