EDINBURGH.- RSA New Contemporaries represents the Royal Scottish Academys commitment to supporting and promoting contemporary art and architecture in Scotland. Now in its 16th year, the exhibition offers a unique opportunity to see some of the best emerging talent in Scotland under one roof. Showcasing 63 graduates selected from the 2024 degree shows, the exhibition will feature a diverse array of painting, sculpture, film-making, photography, printmaking, installation, performance and architecture.
Exhibition Convenor, Robbie Bushe RSA, made the selection of exhibitors with assistance from fellow Academicians and support from representatives from the five main colleges of art. The five Scottish schools of architecture are each represented by graduates selected by Architecture Convenor Ann Nisbet RSA (Elect).
The RSA team work closely with exhibitors in an effort to develop lasting relationships in the lead up to the exhibition and beyond. With considerable monetary prizes in addition to residency, studio and purchase awards, the development of this exhibition is an important initiative for emerging artists and architects in Scotland, enabling a first exhibition opportunity for over 60 early-career artists and architects annually. Previous RSA New Contemporaries have gone on to achieve acclaim and recognition after the exhibition.
Exhibition Convenor Robbie Bushe RSA says: As Convenor, it is a privilege to bring these graduates creative energy and bold ideas to a wider audience. Visiting the degree shows and engaging with their work has been an inspiring journey. Each school demonstrates unique strengths and a deep commitment to nurturing its students creativity. From innovative experiments with kinetics and lighting to the rediscovery of traditional mediums and bold explorations of new technologies, this years graduates have shown a remarkable ability to reflect on and shape the world around them.
