Photographer Zoë Law’s Legends series celebrates over one hundred individuals from the worlds of art, fashion, business and entertainment.

LONDON.- From 29 November 2024, the National Portrait Gallery presents LEGENDS by Zoë Law, a new display that celebrates over one hundred individuals who have influenced the photographer’s life and career. Selected and captured by the British contemporary photographer, the portraits displayed represent figures from the worlds of art, fashion, business and entertainment, described by Law as “legends… people who embody passion, dedication and resilience”. From World Cup winning footballer, Sir Bobby Charlton, to the Co-Founder of UK Black Pride, Lady Phyll, the portraits are being exhibited across the National Portrait Gallery’s Studio Gallery and Spotlight Space until 2 March 2025.

All captured in the photographer’s preferred black and white style, which she uses exclusively in her practice, LEGENDS by Zoë Law includes a new and never-before-seen photograph of the Canadian actress, Kim Cattrall, and a portrait of the singer and songwriter, Noel Gallagher, which are being exhibited for the first time since it was acquired by the Gallery earlier this year.

“I am thrilled and honoured to have my portrait added to the National Portrait Gallery’s permanent Collection. The thought of the portrait of a grumpy middle-aged man who frankly hates having his picture taken being permanently displayed for future generations to marvel at is very special. Thanks and praise.” --Noel Gallagher, Singer and songwriter

“It is the greatest honour that my portrait of the Legend, Noel Gallagher, has been acquired by the National Portrait Gallery. A lasting legacy that all portrait photographers and artists dream of.” --Zoë Law, Photographer

“We are absolutely delighted to have recently acquired Zoë Law’s portrait of Noel Gallagher for the National Portrait Gallery’s Photographs Collection. I am really looking forward to seeing more of her ‘Legends’ exhibited across our Studio Gallery and Spotlight Space in what promises to be an exciting and innovative display. I hope that these striking monochromatic portraits – which celebrate the diversity of British cultural life – help inspire the next generation of photographers and visitors to the National Portrait Gallery.” --Sabina Jaskot-Gill, Senior Curator of Photographs, National Portrait Gallery

Zoë Law’s portraits also inform a new learning programme at the Gallery to inspire the next generation of young photographers. The three-year programme for state-funded Secondary schools will engage students with the Gallery’s Collection and the LEGENDS series to explore practices, tools and techniques used by portrait photographers and develop students' creative and photographic skills.
