BERLIN, GERMANY.- Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum for Design presents Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa SANAA, on view through November 20, 2006. Christian Dior Building Omotesando, Tokio (Japan), 2001 - 2003 Since its establishment in 1995, Tokyo-based architectural firm SANAA (Sejima and Nishizawa Associated Architects) has attracted attention with spectacular buildings, especially with museum facilities in various parts of the world. By developing reductively simple, yet highly subtle solutions for complex architectural tasks, SANAA has produced minimalist buildings distinguished by lucid forms and a predilection for transparent materials.
SANAA was awarded first prize in the architectural competition for a new addition to the Bauhaus Archive in 2005. The same year, the firm also won the competition for a Louvre satellite museum in the northern French city of Lens. SANAA is presently constructing art museums in Valencia (Spain), Toledo/Ohio (USA), and New York City. The exhibition "Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa SANAA"-the very first presentation of SANAA's work in Germany-is making a stop at the Bauhaus Archive on its international tour and will highlight the planned extension to our building.
