BERLIN, GERMANY.- As part of the exhibition project Art France Berlin Art from France , the exhibition ´Peintures / Painting - Painting in France from 1972 to the present day´ will be presenting artworks by French and French-based artists as of 1972. Organizers: An exhibition organized by the Centre Pompidou, the Embassy of the French Republic in Berlin and CULTURESFRANCE. In cooperation with the Berliner Festspiele. Curator of the exhibition: Laurent Le Bon, Centre Pompidou.
Peintures / Painting includes 80 artworks, following the principle: one artist, one artwork, one moment of contemplation. The apparently random order of the artists, induced by the alphabet, creates unexpected groupings and, in addition, deconstructs the art history of trends and tendencies. Thus, one finds Arnal beside Arroyo, Erró next to Fanchon, Hucleux meets Hyber and Yan Pei-Ming encounters Zao Wou-Ki. Moreover, the exhibition grants extra attention and space to emerging painting positions, including 13 works commissioned works. The exhibition is part of the exhibition project ART FRANCE BERLIN, which is organized by the Embassy of the French Republic in Berlin , from September until December 2006.
With more than 150 French artists, displaying their work in more than 30 exhibitions, ART FRANCE BERLIN is offering a unique event to the Berlin cultural landscape from September through December 2006.
