PORTLAND, OR.- The Oregon Historical Society presents the exhibit This Bountiful Place: Art About Agriculture, the First Twenty-five Years. This Bountiful Place: Art About Agriculture celebrates the natural bounty of the Northwest and the stewardship necessary to maintain it. It investigates the science and practices of agriculture through the eyes of artists who participate in the effort.
Art About Agriculture was established in 1983 as a fine arts program of Oregon State Universitys College of Agricultural Sciences. Its founders sought to expand appreciation of agriculture and natural resources, especially in urban areas, through the universal language of visual art.
This Bountiful Place showcases works from the program's permanent collection. The collection includes more than 200 pieces of original fine art, including drawings, fiber arts, works in mixed media, prints, sculpture, and acrylic, oil, and watercolor paintings.
The exhibit invites diverse audiences to contemplate the connections between people and their life-sustaining foods and fibers. The fine artwork and its unique perspectives are sure to spark discourse between agriculturalists and non-agriculturalists.
