Guy Bennett Appointed at Christie's |

NEW YORK.-Christie’s New York announced today the appointment of Guy Bennet as the Head of the Impressionist and Modern Art department. In his new position, Mr. Bennett will extend his business-getting role as well as being responsible for the management of the New York Department and the promotion of the New York sales. Mr. Bennett will continue to work closely with the international team of Impressionist and Modern Art specialists including Jussi Pylkänen, Thomas Seydoux, Andreas Rumbler, Cyanne Chutkow and Olivier Camu.
Guy Bennett, joined the international auction house in 1997. He started his career as a specialist for 20th century art and spent the last five years working in the Impressionist and Modern Art department, becoming Head of the Impressionist and Modern Art Evening Sales in 2004. In that capacity Mr. Bennett not only acted as a major business getter but was also responsible for the evening sales’ presentation and promotion. Major successes included the November 2005 sale which totaled $161 million - the highest total in fifteen years - and set a world auction record for Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec at $22.4 million and the sale of Fernand Leger’s La femme en rouge et vert, which sold for $22,407,500 in November 2003 and established a new world record for the artist at auction.
A native of England, Guy Bennett earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in the History of Arts at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Postgraduate in the History of Arts from Oxford University, England. He now resides in New York with his wife and son.
