Art Basel Miami Beach - Sound under Palm Trees

MIAMI, FLORIDA.-A comprehensive program of audio pieces by renowned and up-coming artists and musicians can be heard daily in the «Art Sound Lounge». «Art Sound Lounge» is produced by Art Basel in association with WPS1.org, an internet radio station founded by PS1 and affiliated with MoMA. WPS1.org, the official «Art Radio» of Art Basel Miami Beach, will be streaming live for three hours daily. The program features interviews with artists, curators, collectors, and art lovers from all over the world. Both «Art Sound Lounge» and WPS1.org are located at the exhibition and event venue in Collins Park, right on the beach, which is also home to «Art Positions» and «Art Perform». Art Basel Miami Beach will be presenting some of the hottest New York artist-DJs – Meredith Danluck, Justin Lowe, Derrick Adams, and Neville Wakefield – during the Happy Hour (7–10 p.m.).

With its «Art Sound Lounge», Art Basel Miami Beach presents a forum where visitors can take in music and audio pieces in attractive surroundings. From December 1 through 4, between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m., interested visitors can take advantage of the open acoustic hoods among the palms to listen to and enjoy a varied program of audio pieces by renowned and up-coming artists. Historical recordings from the 1960s and ’70s are joined by the latest audio work by young artists and musicians. The roster includes artist Louise Bourgeois singing 22 short melodies and children's songs, a CD compilation from Cologne, Germany, with works by Lary 7, Carl Michael Von Hausswolff, Bernard Gal, Maria De Alvear, Miki Yui, and Alvin Lucier, and historic and rare recordings of sounding sculptures by artists Jean Tinguely, Harry Bertoia, Horst Rickels, and Alan Lamb. The program also includes other artists/compo-sers/DJs/musicians, such as Juan Muñoz, John Cage, Christian Marclay, Dennis Oppenheim, William Basinski, Hermann Nitsch, James Tenney, Elliott Sharp, Tao Kostoff, Francisco Lopez & Carl Stone, Matt Heckert, Matthew Brannon, Atsuhiro Ito, Steve Reich, Pauline Oliveros, Stan Douglas, Terry Riley, John Hall, Adam Goldstone, Perry Brandston, and Tim Goldsworthy.

From November 30 to December 3, the internet radio station WPS1, the official «Art Radio» of Art Basel Miami Beach, will be streaming live daily between 7 and 9 p.m. from an open-air pavilion overlooking the «Art Positions» containers. It will be capitalizing on the unique opportunity to produce programming reaching – and featuring – a diverse group of representatives of the international contemporary art world. Thanks to its presence on the web, its unique programming will be available to an international audience at any hour during the show, the station’s comprehensive archives also creating a historic document of Art Basel Miami Beach 2005. WVUM, an independent radio station based out of the University of Miami, will be broadcasting the «Art Radio» program live every day on 90.5 MHz FM, making it available to some 3 million people in the greater Miami-Dade area. WVUM can also be reached all across the world through live streams 24/7 on its website at wvum.org. 5000 specially manufactured «fixed-frequency» radios (pre-set to the one channel) will be distributed to visitors to the show at no charge. These radios will enable listeners to hear the live program stream on a wireless connection throughout Miami.
