NEW YORK, NY.- Bonhams will present fine Chinese works of art, including ancient Chinese jades, silver, bronzes, and ceramics, from premier Chinese art gallery J.J. Lally & Co. during Asia Week New York in March 2023.

An active participant in the Chinese art market for more than 50 years, James J. Lally is recognized for his expert connoisseurship and considerate presentation of the finest Chinese art. His distinguished reputation among scholars, educators, and collectors is a result of his meticulous cataloguing and research that he brought to the 35-year run of the J.J. Lally & Co. gallery in New York. A discerning eye for quality pieces with both aesthetic value and authenticity, Mr. Lally found cherished works for every collector at every price-point.

Lally is known for his dedication to the objects and the relationships he fostered with collectors, as mentioned in the 1987 International Herald Tribune article, published by The New York Times, “Lally enjoys the rare advantage of combining the object lover’s instant perception and the scholar’s awareness of historical significance.”

The items to be sold at Bonhams New York range from the Neolithic period to the Qing dynasty at approachable offerings. With a strong focus on jades and silver, Bonhams' sale will be presented much like that of the gallery’s influential annual themed exhibitions.

“Working with Jim Lally for more than 13 years, I’ve seen his devotion to offering everyone beautiful objects, whether they were seasoned collectors or new enthusiasts,” commented I-Hsuan Chen, Senior Specialist at Bonhams in New York. “We are excited that the selection at Bonhams reflects this legacy, bringing wonderful Chinese works of art to collectors at every level. Mr. Lally’s vision to share his love for Chinese art at every price-point is also something that runs parallel to Bonhams positioning in the global auction market.”
