LUFKIN, TX.- The Museum of East Texas presents a solo museum exhibition of Houston-based, multidisciplinary artist Sarah Fisher, which opened August 6, 2022 and on view through October 15, 2022. A reception with the artist is planned for Sunday, September 11 at 2:00pm. An artist talk is planned for Saturday, October 15, at 6:00pm.

In You Won’t See It Coming, Fisher shares new work from her years-long self-portraiture practice, including two- and three-dimensional pieces that are painted, drawn, etched, printed, collaged, assembled and written. Repurposed found objects ranging from a discarded vintage baby bed to sheared-off crape myrtle bark, from dry cleaning identification stickers to pallet separator board, weave into a narrative Fisher experiences as an ongoing series of “sideswipes,” explosive moments of surprise, both big and small, that detour, devastate and inspire.

Sarah Fisher (b. 1964) currently lives and works in Houston, Texas. Solo exhibitions include Michelson Museum of Art, Marshall, TX; Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, Lubbock, TX; Front Gallery, Houston, TX; and Art Palace Gallery, Houston, TX. Her joint exhibition with Rachel Anderson was presented at Stephen F. Austin State University’s Cole Art Center, Nacogdoches, TX. Group exhibitions include Artspace III Regional Juried Exhibition, Fort Worth, TX; 44 Artists From Texas, Lubbock, TX; The Texas National, Nacogdoches, TX; and Lawndale Art Center’s The Big Show, Houston, TX. Fisher’s work has appeared in Glasstire, Houston Chronicle, PaperCity Magazine, Houston Citybook, Houstonia and arthouston. She was awarded the 2021 Summer Grant Trio grand prize by the Wendy Wagner Foundation. Her mixed-media work is published in Mrs. Schmetterling (Arrowsmith Press, 2021), a book of poetry by Houston’s second Poet Laureate, Robin Davidson.

This exhibition is organized for Museum of East Texas by John Handley PhD, Executive Director.
