WEST PALM BEACH, FLA.- The Norton Museum of Art presents the 2022 Benefit Auction with Sotheby’s. The Benefit Auction, now in its third year, will showcase more than 45 exceptional works of art by pre-eminent artists from some of the world’s leading galleries.

Online bidding will be available to the public at Sothebys.com beginning Monday, March 28, 10am ET and closing Monday April 11, 4pm ET. A direct link to the auction will also be available at norton.org/auction2022. In advance of bidding, works will be available to view in person at the Norton Museum of Art and online starting Monday, March 14. Works will remain on view at the Norton throughout the duration of the auction.

Palm Beach County has emerged as an epicenter of the booming art world, having attracted many notable blue-chip art galleries and top collectors in recent years. The Norton's 2021 Benefit Auction drew global interest, with bidders and buyers from Saudi Arabia, France, Israel, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and beyond.

Auction Committee Co-Chairs Simone Vickar and Sue Hostetler Wrigley stated, “We are so grateful to the outstanding galleries and artists who have contributed such exciting works to the Norton Museum of Art’s 2022 Benefit Auction. We are also thankful to Sotheby’s for helping us reach not just the incredible market in Palm Beach County, but a vast international audience, ensuring that collectors everywhere have the chance to bid on these exceptional works of art – all while supporting an extraordinary museum.”

All auction proceeds benefit the Norton’s curatorial, learning, and community engagement programs.

“The Norton Museum of Art’s annual benefit auction is a critical component to how the Museum carries out its mission and serves the community,” stated Museum Director and CEO Ghislain d’Humières. He further commented, “The funds raised provide invaluable support for bringing world-class exhibitions to our diverse community and enable the continuation of excellent educational programming that impacts audiences across South Florida and beyond. I am grateful to our tireless Auction Committee and to our generous Trustees for making the auction possible.”

The Museum’s Benefit Auction coincides with the annual Gala, which will take place Thursday, April 7. A work by contemporary American painter Will Cotton will also be auctioned live by Sotheby’s at the Gala, with the artist in attendance. Cotton’s works have been exhibited at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; The Seattle Art Museum; the Kunsthalle Bielefeld (Germany); the Hudson River Museum; and the Orlando Museum of Art, among others. Grounded in traditional painting inspired by the Hudson River School, Cotton is known for his surrealistic and sensual works inspired by candy and the female form. Established as an internationally acclaimed and versatile artist, Cotton broke pop-culture boundaries by serving as the Artistic Director for Katy Perry’s 2010 music video, California Gurls.

“We are extremely proud to continue our longstanding partnership with the Norton Museum of Art,” said Christy Coombs, Senior Vice President, Sotheby’s Advisory, and Auctioneer for the Norton’s Gala. “Building on this continued support, we are delighted to host their annual Benefit Auction live and on Sothebys.com for the third consecutive year. Under Ghislain's and the Board’s leadership, the breadth of renowned artists who contributed to this year’s auction is a testament to the Norton’s esteemed reputation as one of the leading institutions in South Florida. On behalf of the entire Sotheby’s team, we couldn’t be more pleased to help raise meaningful funds to support the institution’s mission and goals furthering their continued engagement with the local community and beyond.”
