PETWORTH.- Bellmans are holding their first Contemporary Art evening auction on Thursday, 16th December 2021. The remarkable collection of Contemporary Art, titled 'Expanding Horizons', includes some of the big names of the British contemporary art scene, but also well-known international artists.
The Alphabet Series by Peter Blake (British, born 1932) from 1991 comprises 26 screenprints in colour, with each sheet signed, titled and numbered Peter Blake 62/95 with an estimate of £5,000 - £7,000.
Keith Tyson is another British artist (born 1969), he is represented in the auction with a couple of works, one of them an oil on a shaped board which is estimated at £1,000 - £1,500.
The auction includes several Shields of Achilles in different colours from 2008 by British artist Mark Alexander (born 1966), it is estimated at £2,000 - £4,000. They are 220 cm in diameter each and oil silkscreen on canvas.
A limited edition of 20 hand finished photographic prints, each individually numbered and limited to 400 copies, printed using the original negatives by Herbert George Ponting (British, 1870 - 1935) in the possession of Popperfoto. It is edition 6/400 and the collector's boxed edition 6/30 with a sheet size of 40 x 50 cm. The lot is expected to fetch £400 - £600.
American artist Ian Monroe (born 1972) is represented with most works in this auction. Among them A Solar Rarity (triptych), 2008, which is signed and dated '2008' (verso), mixed media on aluminium. It is estimated at £1,500 - £2,500. At the lower price end is an aluminium and vinyl on plexiglass, The Structure Grew From Stress Diagrams, 2011, which carries an estimate of £150 - £200.
The collection also includes several works by the well-known Chinese artist Zhang Huan (CHINESE, B. 1966). Among them Stand Tree (Memory Door), 2006, a 139 x 298 cm silkscreen, wood and mixed media, which is estimated at £7,000 - £10,000, while the Tui Bei Tu Series, a woodcut print signed and dated in pencil '2006' (lower right) is expected to fetch £3,000 - £5,000.
German filmmaker Wim Wenders (born 1945) is also a prolific photographer and three photographs are included in this auction as are some by his wife. New York, November 8, 2001 V, edition 6/6, is a c print with an image size of 133 x 407cm and estimated at £8,000 - £12,000.
A lithograph in colours of La Ronde de la Jeunesse (The Youth Circle), 25.7 61, by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso (1881 - 1973) carries an estimate of £50 - £70.
The auction includes almost 150 lots - installation art, paintings, photography, lithographs and drawings and will be on view until Thursday's evening auction starts.
