It's been a long time since Kristen Stewart's "Twilight" days were over, but could this be the year she finally receives the recognition she deserves? This year's Best Actress race already feels like a knock-down, drag-out match-up, but Stewart is the overwhelming favorite among Gold Derby experts and user predictions for her work in Spencer.
Why are these movies so famous?
At the top of the Best Actress candidates list, 14 experts believe that Stewart will win the award. Critics lauded Stewart's performance in Pablo Larrain's "Spencer" after its
Venice Film Festival premiere and subsequent Telluride Film Festival showing as a revelation. Entertainment Weekly put her on the cover in October, wondering whether she may be "crowned" queen of the awards season. The actress has already received a lot of excellent advance press.
If the previous history serves as a guide, the Best Actress race for the 2022 Academy Awards will see a lot of ups and downs before the victor is finally declared at the Academy Awards next year. It's hard to overlook Jessica Chastain, who plays Tammy Faye Bakker in "The Eyes of Tammy Faye." Despite the film's lackluster performance at the box office, Chastain's performance in Searchlight's edition, which premiered in September, received overwhelmingly excellent reviews. This year's Best Actress nomination for Chastain is a nod to her debut in the public eye a decade ago
according to Offers.Bet. Chastain garnered her first Oscar nomination in 2011 when she starred or co-starred in five films, including Best Picture nominees "The Help" and "The Tree of Life." Following her nomination for "The Help" (a supporting actress nod), she was nominated for "Zero Dark Thirty" (the Best Actress nomination). Although she has had several notable roles since then, Chastain has not been nominated for Best Actress. In 2022, most experts believe that will alter.
Lady Gaga's performance in "House of Gucci" is another great contender. According to some of the early reviews and responses to
Ridley Scott's new film starring Lady Gaga, she is a tremendous force. She portrays Maurizio Gucci's scheming ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani, in the film. Gucci was killed by a hitman hired by Reggiani in the real world. For "A Star Is Born" and "A Star Is Born," Lady Gaga has already been nominated in the Best Original Song category and won an Oscar (for Best Original Song, also for "A Star Is Born").
However, those aren't the only deserving candidates. "The Lost Daughter" is Olivia Colman's new film. In the Maggie Gyllenhaal thriller, Colman, fresh from her Emmy Award triumph for "The Crown," provides one of her best performances yet, and as more people see the film, her fortunes will probably increase as well. In Pedro Almodovar's "Parallel Mothers," Penelope Cruz's performance is expected to receive the same treatment. After Stewart and Chastain, pundits had Cruz ranked third.
The incumbent Best Actress winner,
Frances McDormand, is nominated for "The Tragedy of Macbeth" once again. Jennifer Hudson, who won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in "Respect," has also remained a favorite choice. Emilia Jones for "CODA" and Tessa Thompson for "Passing" are two more famous underdogs.
The competition isn't over yet, though. Being the Ricardo's" Nicole Kidman is a standout. The Aaron Sorkin film stars Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball, a former Best Actress winner, and early reviews of the film and Kidman's performance have been overwhelmingly positive. "Nightmare Alley," "West Side Story," "Don't Look Up," and "Licorice Pizza" are just a few of the late-breaking films with prominent parts for actresses.
