Mistakes Artists Make When Selling Their Art Online

One of your most effective tools for disseminating your work and voice is the internet.
Selling art online allows you to contact people from all around the world at any time. However, if you repeat the same mistakes as many other artists, you may be unable to earn from online art sales.

You may already realize that selling your art online has a lot of promise, but if you aren't getting the results you want, one of these frequent errors might be to blame.

Bad Artwork Photos

It's critical to photograph your art properly. The most important way is to ensure your primary image is clear and crisp, and that it is correctly trimmed so that no backdrop is visible.

Submitting Dimensions That Aren't Correct

The measurements you provide must be in centimeters and it can only apply to the artwork itself, not the frame.

If it's framed, provide the measurements in the description as well.

If you're providing a computer-generated picture of the work "in situ" (i.e. on a wall), display the item to scale. As a starting point, consider the other things in the environment.

Not putting a ‘Ready to Hang' label on the piece of art

Check this box if your item is ready to hang with D-rings or a wire on the back. Collectors may be hesitant to buy if they don't know how an item will arrive, so it's better to be upfront and honest.

Include photographs of the back of your work, and make a note of the specific features in the description.

Ignoring the Frame's Details

If your painting is framed, include a photo of the framework as well as the measurements in the description.

If your photographs show the piece framed (for instance, in an in-situ view), make sure to specify that the frame is not included in the description.

If the frame is an option, make sure to indicate any additional costs and whether or not alternative color options exist.

You've priced yourself out of the business

Setting pricing is a difficult task. It's crucial to include all of the sale costs in the total price, not only the gallery fee, but also packing, frame, and shipping. This might add up quickly, but don't worry — you're deserve it!

Presentation Errors

Everything from your internet presence to your packing and framing is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your professionalism. The buyer's perception is influenced by cracked, handcrafted frames, poor artwork pictures, and insufficient packing. To reaffirm their trust in their acquisition, put your best foot forward using high-quality products.

Don't Forget About the Commercial Side of Selling

It's not as much fun as producing fantastic works of art, but there's no disputing that making a career as an artist necessitates business abilities. Spending time refining your business abilities, as tiresome as it may be, is worthwhile. The most successful artists are aware of their identity and are confident in their ability to sell themselves online. Not to mention maintaining records of the money side of things in order to measure growth, determine what's selling, and prepare for tax season.

One of your most effective methods for generating followers and growing revenue should be the internet. By avoiding these typical blunders, you'll have all you need to boost your sales.
