BOSTON, MASS.- RR Auction brings 1,100+ items to the auction block in our massive November Fine Autographs and Artifacts sale.
Dominated by dozens of animation cels and production drawings, important John F. Kennedy manuscripts and memorabilia, and historic autographs from around the world, this is an impressive auction in its depth and breadth.
Highlights include; Lee Harvey Oswald's US Marine Corps Rifle Score Book (Warren Commission Exhibit No. 239). The 80-page softcover workbook issued on December 3, 1956, was filled out by Oswald. For the past 57 years many have claimed Oswald was a lousy shot and could not have killed Kennedy. These three test scores show otherwise. His above-expert level in three of five tests shows he was capable of assassinating President Kennedy either alone or had the appropriate background and capabilities if chosen by conspirators as a 'patsy'.
The Warren Commission used only one piece of physical evidence to state that Oswald was capable of assassinating President Kennedyand it was these scorecards from December 21, 1956. These scorecards can be found in Warren Commission Volume 16, as Commission Exhibit 239. These results enabled the Warren Commission, in their single-volume final report, to state: "The Commission has concluded further that Oswald possessed the capability with a rifle which enabled him to commit the assassination."
"It's an extraordinary piece of history used as a major exhibit of evidence in the Warren Commission conclusions implicating Lee Harvey Oswald to the Kennedy assassination," said Bobby Livingston, Executive VP at RR Auction
A rare letter Eliot Ness signed letter with Illegal Roulette Lammer Chips from the Last Capone Mob Raid. The handwritten one-page letter on personal City of Cleveland, Department of Public Safety letterhead, is undated. Handwritten letter to "Doc," ostensibly Dr. Arthur Hagedorn, the chairman and physician of the Cleveland Boxing Commission, in part: "These were seized by me on the last raid ever made on the Capone mob just before the Al Capone trial." The lower portion of the letter bears eight affixed illegal roulette Lammer chips from the referenced Cotton Club raid.
Among other featured lots is a flown page of the Apollo 11 Flight Plan from Buzz Aldrin's personal collection; a wardated letter by George Washington on the construction of a powder magazine at West Point, an autograph letter from Paul Gauguin to mentor Camille Pissarro; and several concept paintings by great Disney artists Mary Blair and Eyvind Earle.
