A Mira Nakashima Conoid Dining Table, 2000 (estimate: $10,000-15,000), featuring one of George Nakashima’s most important designs: a Conoid design with an angled table base supporting a free-edge walnut slab top measuring 78 inches long.

DALLAS, TX.- More than three-quarters of a century after George Nakashima opened his studio, the works it produces remain in high demand among collectors who prize the merging of artistic designs with elite craftsmanship.

Three works from the studio that still custom-mills sustainably harvested hardwoods will land in new collections when they are sold in Heritage Auctions’ Design Auction July 15.

“The Nakashima Woodworkers, founded in 1945, has maintained its well-earned reputation as a master woodworker, designer and furniture maker whose works have been prized for generations,” Heritage Auctions Design Director Brent Lewis said. “Under the stewardship of his daughter, Mira, the studio continues to create furniture offering a rare blend of aesthetic beauty and functionality that has fostered generations of eager collecting.”

Featured in the auction are:

• A Mira Nakashima Conoid Dining Table, 2000 (estimate: $10,000-15,000), featuring one of George Nakashima’s most important designs: a Conoid design with an angled table base supporting a free-edge walnut slab top measuring 78 inches long

• A Mira Nakashima Set of Six Conoid Dining Chairs, 2003 (estimate: $10,000-15,000), beautiful examples of a cantilevered design that come to the auction block directly from the first owner

• A Ben Shahn Blind Botanist with George Nakashima Frame, 1963 (estimate: $4,000-6,000), a lithograph from an outstanding artist who was a friend to the Nakashima family, in a custom 26-by-20-inch custom frame
