NEW YORK, NY.- Today, Sotheby’s unveiled The Emporium, a new retail destination dedicated to showcasing the finest assortment of art, design and luxury items, all available for immediate purchase. Located within its New York flagship galleries, The Emporium is an extension of the company’s growing Buy Now online marketplace, which offers clients and discerning shoppers 24/7, 365 access to an exceptional property mix of over 5,000 authenticated luxury items across fine jewels, fine art, collectible sneakers, watches, designer handbags, decorative objects, furniture and more. Featuring a variety of price points, the Buy Now online marketplace is backed by the cachet of a brand known for its trusted expertise, connoisseurship, and authentication for more than 275 years. Marrying the best of e-commerce ease with the excitement of tangible retail shopping, The Emporium further positions Sotheby’s as the pre-eminent luxury and fine art destination.

Josh Pullan, Sotheby’s Head of Global Luxury Division, said: “Over the past year we’ve seen enormous growth and transformation within the luxury landscape, as evidenced by the success of online auctions and the response to our Buy Now e-commerce platform. Our newest retail venture in New York, The Emporium, presents a rich assortment of luxury lifestyle goods and fine art that clients can enjoy in person every day and buy instantly.”

The online and physical marketplace will be curated by a revolving group of tastemakers and influencers, beginning with the inimitable Gucci Westman, whose make-up artistry and dedication to clean beauty has been attested to by clients such as Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow amongst others. Her own brand, Westman Atelier, is based on presenting luxurious, clean, and sustainable products, infused with the highest quality treatment actives and ingredients. Shoppers can browse and purchase Gucci’s edit in the New York Emporium or the Buy Now website from 10 May until 10 June. To thank Westman for her involvement, Sotheby’s will make a donation to the Right Livelihood Foundation, a mission-driven organization that is close to her heart. The Right Livelihood Foundation was established to support courageous individuals solving urgent global problems while promoting ecological balance. It is committed to scientific research, education, and public understanding with a humanitarian goal of eliminating material and spiritual poverty, and contributing to fundamental justice and world peace.

Gucci Westman, founder of Westman Atelier, commented: “I am beyond thrilled to collaborate with Sotheby’s on an edit of luxury goods for the debut of The Emporium. The credibility, the curation, and the craftsmanship that come with the Sotheby’s stamp—knowing something has been vetted by such an exceptional eye—is special. From a pair of Art Nouveau Gooseneck desk lamps by Loetz to a late 20th-century Signe Perrson-Melin Glazed Bowl and contemporary gold, platinum and diamond David Webb necklace, my selections embody my passion for timeless investment pieces with a story to tell. Not to mention the element of discovery—what better way to encounter a new artist or delve into the world of interiors than through Sotheby’s unique lens?”

The Emporium will also serve as a space to feature special collaborations, such as the seven exquisitely artisan-crafted chestnut roasters from LOEWE’s new series of decorative objects, LOEWE Weaves, which will be exclusively offered for immediate purchase through Buy Now and The Emporium this month. Inspired by the traditional Galician chestnut roaster, these handmade pots of clay are characterized by multiple holes, creating an ideal playground for different weaving techniques. Created by master potter Antonio Pereira, LOEWE has commissioned artists and artisans from diverse nationalities - ARKO from Japan, Min Chen from China, and Laia Arqueros from Spain – to decorate the roasters using leftover materials from past LOEWE collections. The result of this project is a series of stunning ceramic art pieces, blending different techniques and materials, each one of which is unique. These wonderfully crafted works of art are currently displayed in Sotheby’s New York galleries, alongside masterpieces by Claude Monet, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Paul Cezanne, Willem de Kooning, Roy Lichtenstein and other titans of 20th and 21st century art history that Sotheby’s will be offerings in its sale of Impressionist, Modern & Contemporary Art on 12 May – fusing the core values of each brand’s belief in the importance of craft, supporting contemporary art and culture around the world.
