BOULDER, CO.- After completing a comprehensive, nation-wide search,
BMoCA announced the hire of Pamela Meadows as Curator of the museum. Meadows, who has extensive curatorial experience and previously served as the Director & Curator of the University of Northern Colorado Galleries in Greeley, CO, begins her new role at BMoCA on January 4, 2021. Meadows will oversee the continued growth of the museums exhibition program by providing leadership, strategic direction, and managerial oversight.
I am thrilled to welcome Meadows as the newest member of the BMoCA team, noted David Dadone, Executive Director + Chief Curator, in announcing the appointment. She brings expertise and vision as we continue to grow our exhibitions program. I am confident that her commitment to contemporary artists, site-specific/conscious art, and immersive experiences will build upon the museums strengths and advance the mission of the institution in news ways. Hiring Meadows is a silver lining to this challenging year!
Leading the charge of this national search was BMoCAs Hiring Committee, consisting of Board members and museum staff. The Committee included: Kirk Ambrose, Professor & former Chair of the Department of Art & Art History at University of Colorado Boulder; Amy Metier, Artist & Art Professor; Chandler Romeo, Developer & Artist; Gwen Burak, Deputy Director of BMoCA; and David Dadone, Executive Director + Chief Curator of BMoCA.
I am honored to join Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art and to work alongside Dadone and the team, Meadows says. I look forward to expanding existing partnerships with artists, organizations, and community members, in conjunction with presenting the Boulder community exceptional contemporary art. As Curator, I seek to embrace both global and local perspectives, take risks, and be daring in my curation to bring our community unexpected, thought provoking, and accessible artistic experiences.
Prior to her appointment as Curator at BMoCA, Meadows served as the Director & Curator of the University of Northern Colorado Galleries in Greeley. She has curated a diverse range of exhibitions at institutions such as: The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (Houston, TX), Find & Form Space (Boston, MA), The Samek Art Museum at Bucknell University (Lewisburg, PA), The Diego Rivera Gallery, (San Francisco, CA), Receiver Gallery (San Francisco, CA), The New Art Center (Newton, MA), and Montserrat Galleries (Beverly, MA).
Meadows is a curator with a focus on contemporary, site-specific/conscious art. Her curatorial vision is aimed towards place making, specifically developing immersive experiences that prompt dynamic, participatory engagement. Her research provides critical discourse through the lens of the visual arts and interdisciplinary practice.
Meadows has published articles in The American Alliance of Museums: The Center for the Future of Museums, Big Red & Shiny, and Art New England among others. Most recently, she published the exhibition catalogue for Yucca Fountain (2020), in collaboration with artists Andrew Bablo and Helen Popinchalk. She has guest contributed to exhibition catalogues such as, Wanderlust: Actions, Traces, Journeys 1967-2017 by Rachel Adams and SEVEN: A Performative Drawing Project 2013-2015 co-authored by Leonie Bradbury and Maggie Cavallo.
Meadows holds a Masters in Exhibition and Museum Studies from the San Francisco Art Institute and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Museum Studies from Juniata College.
