The Art of Learning Technology for 10-Year-Olds

Being a parent to a 10-year-old is as crazy as any job that you can get, you have to take care of them, balance with their changing emotions while providing them with a solid platform to grow and learn more about the world. If you want to have your children a sense of what is going on in the world technology-wise and providing them with a sight for innovation and reason to ask questions then you should do a little research about what should you get them in this regard.

Sure every 10 years old would love to play with common toys but that is not going to help them shape any part of their future, they will be attached to those for some time and then when they grow up, all lessons are forgotten as if those toys did teach them something.

Most parents are familiar with "STEM" toys, in which STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. When your child reaches 10-year-olds, he is ready to learn these difficult disciplines through playing with STEM toys.

The point here is that instead of getting them some normal toys, introduce them to the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) toys. The technology-themed toys provide the little ones with some potent imagination they can use to make sense of what goes on around them. They will be learning some great skills that will not only be helping them get through to college but get a great understanding of mathematics, engineering, and other such disciplines. Critical thinking, problem-solving, hand-eye coordination, and motor muscle development are some of the things they will be learning all along.

If you want to have a quick understanding of the benefits your young one will be cashing out of this endeavor then the following are some that you can come across;

1. Better hand-eye coordination
Hand-eye coordination is something that is a trademark of every technology intensive item or toy out there. Every toy based on its build and the category that it resembles is ought to perform something that is new, intriguing, and unique to the children. Pushing some buttons, getting a hand to hand experience with the toy will spark some activity which will compel the children to either look in its way of acting or engage with it using their hands. Thus the hand-eye coordination is developed, is practiced, and becomes something to interact with on a day to day basis.

The same goes for using smart devices such as tablets and smartphones, propagating a touch on the screen is ought to spark an eye movement which then will result in more interaction and engagement with the hands and thus developing better and more vigilant hand-eye coordination.

2. Improves language skills
Another benefit that your children will be getting while engaging with these STEM toys is the improvement in their language-oriented skills. By reading manuals, hearing the toys speak, or perform any other lingual segment they will be kicking their language skills in the right direction. Speed and support to the learning process are rendered while interacting with the language development technology, even if the toys can't be a major stream of improving the language skills for your kids the online storytelling and watching productive videos related to their curriculum can be a great way, to begin with, this approach.

3. Higher capacity for visual attention
Most of the toys for kids that we see have lights on them but these are often for some useless purpose that is not going to spark any sense of cognitive action within the young ones. But with the STEM toys, it is a little different, if there are lights or some other visual component then it is strongly intricate with a lesson that will spark attention and other cognitive action with the young ones. Gaming on the other hand can be taken as a subtle technological approach that can render these kids with problem-solving skills while increasing the level of visual attention moving on with this approach.

Role-playing games or RPGs for example are the best way to embed higher capacity for visual attention in kids as they are playing with a particular character, they would have to make decisions along the line that would affect their gameplay, allowing them to interact with the world that is presented before them at a better note.

4. Social interaction skills
You don't want your 10-year-old being socially awkward and not feeling comfortable while interacting with people they are meeting for the first time. Technology oriented tools and toys help them to grab a better handle over the situation. They can play with the same toy with their friend, trying to solve a particular math problem and interacting with a science-related element with them that will spark a sense of social entanglement and interaction with others.

If something can be made intriguing enough for the young ones and they take it as something that is unique then there is a great chance that they will be interacting with it and thus increasing their cognition and behavioral activity. This is when they get to learn something and instill that experience to have it with them for years to come.

5. Motivation to complete tasks
More often the technology-intensive toys present the young ones with a challenge to solve something or complete a rather difficult task from their perspective. With a little thought and brainstorming, they will definitely be able to outsmart the toy in question thus gaining a learning experience to take home. The more tasks they complete and the challenges they overcome the better they get. So, that is why instead of getting your kids some random toys why not get them STEM-oriented toys that will do them some good in the long run.

There are many websites that specialize in recommending learning and brain development toys for kids, even babies. You should be checking these sites out for options and insights about getting your little ones the best toys to interact with. Our favorite one is littlediscoverer.com.
