| Arts Patron Margaret Gardiner, 100, Dies |

LONDON, UK.- Patron of the arts and anti-war campaigner Margaret Gardiner, 100, died in London. Among her close friends were Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson, W.H. Auden, Louis MacNeice, Adrian Stokes, Herbert Read, Desmond Bernal and Patrick Blackett. She was born in Berlin in 1904. Gardiner acquired many works from Hepworth and Nicholson, and others by Alfred Wallis, Naum Gabo, Peter Lanyon, Terry Frost, and Patrick Heron. She later gave her art collection to the people of Orkney at the Pier Arts Centre.
