Road Kill by Peter Schafrick.

TORONTO, CANADA.- Photographer Peter Schafrick is the recipient of the 2004 Black & White Spider Awards, First Place in Still Life Photography, for his entry “Road Kill.”

Juried by the world's leading curators, auctioneers, editors, and dealers of black and white photography, the 2004 awards attracted photographers from twenty nine countries, and were judged by an international panel of industry leaders, including Sotheby's, PDN, Communications Arts, Man Ray Trust, Black & White Magazine, and the Tate Gallery. The winning images will be published in leading photography publications worldwide.

“As a photographer who specializes in still life photography, I am truly honoured to have been presented with this award, especially given the elite panel of international judges,” said Schafrick. “Before turning professional, my interest in photography started out in black and white, so I’m delighted to be awarded with this title, and flattered to have won in the company of my peers of professional photographers worldwide.”

The Black and White Spider Awards is an international awards competition recognizing excellence in black and white photography. This celebrated event brings professional photographers together with leading industry figures to participate in a unique annual celebration of this classic art form, and honours the finest images with the highest achievements in black & white photography.

The Black and White Spider Awards contribute to Amnesty International, and Art For Disabled Youths - a charity introducing disabled children and young adults to the world of photography through the "My First Camera" program.
