Could You Spot an Opie from a Perry?
RCA Secret 2004

LONDON, ENGLAND.- Postcards are flooding in for the RCA Secret postcard exhibition and sale, even at this early stage artworks have been donated by Turner Prize winner Grayson Perry, Tracey Emin, Julian Opie, film director Ken Loach, fashion designers Hussein Chalayan and Phoebe Philo from Chloe, Christo & Jean Claude, American artists Lawrence Weiner and Sol LeWitt, photographers Mario Testino and Richard Billingham, musician Graham Coxon and design guru Sir Terence Conran. But will you be able to guess which ones they are? The key to the sale is that the identity of the artist remains unknown until the piece of work is bought and the signature is revealed on the back.

RCA Secret continues to raise funds for Royal College of Art Fine Art students with this celebrated annual event now in its eleventh year. The winning formula of the sale remains unchanged, with postcards still priced at £35 each, but the interest and support continues to grow, with contributions from an ever-increasing spectrum of the creative world.

The exhibition opens for viewing at the Royal College of Art from 19 - 25 November. The sale takes place from 8am – 8pm on 26 November and 10am – 6pm on 27 November. Arrive early to avoid disappointment, as die-hard fans pitching tents outside to be first in the queue are now something of an RCA Secret tradition.

By choosing and buying a postcard, the chances are that it could be by a name you already know but alternatively it could be by a star of the future. Some of the contributing artists are students or recent graduates of the Royal College of Art and other leading art colleges, destined to become the celebrated names of tomorrow. Once the artwork is yours to keep, then starts the interesting journey of finding out more about the artist and watching their career progress.

As in previous years all monies raised go to the Royal College of Art Fine Art Student Award Fund, which helps support emerging artists with grants and bursaries during their time at the College. RCA Secret has raised nearly £600,000 for this fund so far.
