LONDON.- When obliged to flounder in the dense wasteland of post-internet media the Youth of today struggle for a vision of a positive future. Im not afraid portrays humanity acting in defiance towards this incessant barrage of disconcerting audio-visual pollution in the attempt to grapple for a hold on their future. In the midst of fearmongering headlines, political intimidation and social corruption, random actions that propagate human emotion triumph over these subduing forces of society. Swimming in a freezing ocean, a strangers kiss, winning a video-game or losing it is only a fraction of what constitutes humanity, here, presented as conquests against undesirable and often unconscionable social systems of hegemony.
Giacomo finds himself, often deliberately, in difficult and perilous situations documenting the consternation that is innately heralded by the media. Working on the opposite side of the spectrum, he then offers a recourse, divulging ways in which youth cope with such fatalistic tendencies. Giacomo captures the negatives and positives of todays society as experienced by people from around the world. His work lingers on the fine line between documentary photography and personal memoirs, providing equilibrium between obedience and defiance, ecstasy and melancholy. He is a disciple to honesty and addresses his subjects with a stark matter-of-factness, recording specific events in a cautious and objective manner providing the freedom for personal judgement.
In all of his ventures, Giacomo captures the spirit of humanity by focusing on specific moments of elation and affliction, with the intention of reminding us that human emotions are not just social constructs but shared experiences.
Giacomo Cosua was born in Venice, Italy in 1983. He obtained his Master degree at the London College of Communication (University of Arts of London) in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography.
